OMG, this pregnancy acne...

...Jesus. Skin like a teenaged boy. Anyone have any tips? Besides a paper bag over my head?

Re: OMG, this pregnancy acne...

  • I'm feeling your pain. I had zits the size of marbles on my chin at my brothers wedding recently. We'll call it pregnancy glow! Doc said salycilic acid over the counter is fine. Some days it helps
  • Oh man, I'm glad I'm not alone, but shoot this is annoying!! I want a glow, damnit!
  • Loading the player...
  • My doctor said no to salt colic acid, and I wanted to be like, "dude...look at my face," but instead I just shook my head sadly.
  • Ugh! I have no tips, but feel your pain.. My face is worse than when I was a teenager. Just when it starts to clear up, a whole new crop starts to appear! :(( so this is pregnancy "glow"?!?

  • My chin/mouth area is like a mine field has detonated onto it. It's so bad. And once it looks like it's about to heal up, then BOOM I wake up the next morning and there's about 4 more that have popped up. I don't know what to do to help it. I mean, I'm pretty stressed right now so that could contribute but still, it's normal for me to be somewhat stressed. Ugh! I hate this!
  • That's the worst part! For like half a day, it looks like it's clearing up! Then the next day, BAM! A whole new crop. It was not like this when I was pregnant with my son. Wth.
  • I had perfect skin in high school. But after I got pregnant with our son 4 years ago the acne got horrible. After I had him it got much better but never went away completely. Now that I'm pregnant with our second my skin has exploded again. :( It sucks and I hate it. I used some really mild facial cleansers and toners. But I honestly think it's hormonal and not much can be done till after pregnancy. :(

    This.
  • Feeling your pain. I keep getting them on the backs of my ears and random ones on my shoulders right where my bra sits, so painful! With my first pregnancy, by the middle of 2nd tri my face was looking better than it ever has. Then I never even got acne with my 2nd pregnancy, but that was a boy, and I'm convinced this one is another girl. Hopefully things clear up soon for all of us!
  • My dermatologist suggested glycolic acid based cleanser. I checked with my ob and got the ok today... So I don't know if it works yet but am trying it as of tonight!
  • I don't have any advice but I feel your pain! I have not only been getting them on my face, but my chest, shoulders and back! I've never had acne in those places before.

This. It's so annoying. Tonight's new arrival is on the edge of my top lip. Not as big as his friends, thankfully, but oh so painful. I'm over it.

  • I had a really bad breakout the other day, it's all the right side of my face, left side has nothing.
  • Just got married with a breakout all over my face. Thank god I booked a professional makeup artist! Of course, after being caked in make up it's worse than ever, but at least I got pretty pictures, right?
  • I had boob acne. Ga-ross. Finally clearing up thanks to second tri!

  • Glad it's not just me. My chin has exploded. Let's not forget my back and my boobs. My husband made a comment the other day about it. I told him that this is what they call pregnancy glow. I feel like a teenager. I had beautiful skin in high school. Ever since I got off BC pills, the zits have appeared with a vengeance... I think they are trying to make up for lost time. :(

  • I have it on my face, boobs, and back. I feel so nasty. I've tried everything natural not working. I asked my doctor and she said not to stress over products as long as no retinal or vitamin a. So I went to using proactive and it's been helping a lot. But it's definitely still there.
  • I hear you, mine are the worst!! And you have to be careful what kind of acne medication you use. My doctor recommended and gave me the ok to use proactive, I just started so I'm not sure of the results yet :)
  • I'm going to the dermatologist next month and I can't wait. My chin is just ugh.

  • I'm with you!  I've never had much acne, aside from a zit or two around my period.  My face looks terrible.  I was prescribed Finacea (azelaic acid) for rosacea by my dermatologist several months before BFP.  My dr recently told me it was fine to continue while pregnant, so I'm trying to stay on a regular regimen with that.  My dermatologist has told me that it can help acne in addition to rosacea.  Other than that, I've got no ideas!  I keep hoping I'll wake up to that "pregnancy glow" but it hasn't happened yet...haha

  • Chin breakouts every couple week, at least 2 huge deep pimples on each cheek, backne & let's not forget about tiny little breakouts between the boobs

I'm barely healing when the cycle restarts

As for Recs, haha.. I'm told to get a consistent mild skincare cleanse & moisturize regimen, and that all will be over in a month

  • My chin area it's where I get all of mine.
  • My forehead is so gross!
  • Tea tree oil is a natural acne remedy. I've been diluting and applying. Helps a bit.
  • Yes - every time I think I've turned the corner more appear nearby! I even had a pimple show up on the top of my foot. That was a real first. This along with the not yet showing but bulging tummy are doing a number on my self-esteem. I know it'll be worth it come April, but I was not expecting this.
  • I never had any acne even in high school (I blame good genes and my tomboy-ish ways...) but pregnancy... it's still not horrible, it's just the locations...
Example: a recently had a (very painful) zit INSIDE MY NOSE!!!
I've figured out that using non-antibacterial, non moisturizing soft soap hand soap or baby wash or shampoo to wash my face is what's working best for me. And I only exfoliate with a wash cloth on my face... Anything else and it's been very irritating on my skin. It stopped the chin pimples. That's essentially what I did in high school too. And I stopped wearing makeup besides eye makeup, not even tinted moisturizer.

I don't know wtf to do about the random ear and inner nose pimples though. Or about my giant looking pores.

  • It can suddenly go away as well as strike with the force of 1000 volcanoes. So there's that.

I do skincare and here's my advice. Stick to a gentle routine. No soaps, just gentle cleansers. Be sure to moisturize even if you think you're oily. It'll help keep irritation to a minimum and balance out sebum production. Other than that, it's hormone acne and there's not much you can do :(

  • Mine aren't even real zits, more like blotches? I also get red patches/rashes and people keep making comments on how red I am blushing. The only thing that's working for me is a thick layer if BB cream so people don't know I actually look like a mutant.
  • I feel your pain. My skin is all over the place. It's dry and flaky but at the same time I'm getting breakouts. I might have reasonably clear skin for a few days but then I start breaking out again. It's so annoying. I don't actually use anything but neutremetics combination skin face wash. I don't even moisturise at the moment because that seems to make it worse. Hoping it calms down soon.

Mine is doing the same thing! Two days my skin will clear and then bam! Forehead covered again.

I've found just mild soap and warm water every night and sometimes after work help. I also use coconut oil on my face and it has also helped keep my skin mosturized. Too bad hormones will always win with this one...

  • The zits are taking over here too. My chin, nose, and forehead constantly break out. I had one of the biggest ones ever on the back of my neck last week. So gross. As soon as one goes away, 2 more pop up. Ugh! I might look into Proactive. None of my remedies seem to be working.

  • I feel your pain. Last pg I got PAINFUL cystic acne on my back and shoulders. I'm already starting to get the chin line and neck and a little on my back. I know it's a vanity thing, but it's also painful! I'm trying not to wash too often and to use super gentle soap when I do.

  • I don't think anything really helps. I've always had a little bit of a problem with acne, but it's gotten much worse since getting the positive test, and nothing I've used helps. Washing my face regularly keeps some at bay, but there's just so much more oil going on that nothing stops it completely.
  • Ugh I know! Last time I just had it in the first trimester but this time it's much worse and everywhere! Since it's hormonal I don't think there's a lot you can do...but I have always had acne and the Clarisonic seems to help a bit. (Just use it with Cetaphil)
