2nd Trimester

At what point did you stop

sleeping on your stomach and on your back?

I'm a stomach sleeper and just stopped b/c I popped out this past week and although I'm small I feel like I'll hurt the baby and I'm scared to sleep on my back b/c I read it causes problem w/oxygen flow or something. I'm hardley sleeping b/c I have to fall asleep on my stomach. Do people stop b/c it's unsafe or just uncomfortable?

TIA

Re: At what point did you stop

  • around 20 weeks I started forcing myself to my side.  I stopped the stomach around 13 weeks because it got uncomfortable, and now if I lay on my back for more than a few minutes it starts to hurt, bad.

  • I still sleep on my tunny a little, but I was never a lay flat tummy sleeper. I lay on my sides as much as I can but sometimes the back feels the best. My Dr said it was not a problem and when it is my body will tell me when to move which it has.?

  • I'm a day ahead of you and just stopped sleeping on my stomach this week, mostly because it's uncomfortable. For the first time, I can actually feel my uterus/the baby when I lie on my tummy.

For me, it's not a big deal because 90% of the time I sleep on my left side anyway.

  • I haven't slept on my stomach for a couple months because it was uncomfortable with the bloat. I don't sleep much on my back because there is too much pressure.

  • I quit sleeping on my stomach WEEKS ago, but only because it was uncomfortable. I try it every now and then, just to see, and it's a joke!

I sleep on my back occasionally, but as pp said, it starts to hurt, so I basically sleep on my sides now, with a body pillow.

  • i think around 12-13 weeks is when i stopped stomach sleeping because it got uncomfortable.  I tend to wake up on my back when it starts to hurt.  Your body tells you when you need to roll over.  I may start out on my sides but always end up on my back.

  • I say sleep however you are comfortable. I sleep on my stomach/side most of the time. Eventually you won't be able to breathe on your back. Until that happens, I think its fine.

  • I was always a stomach sleeper, and now I still sleep on my side/stomach with a body pillow between my belly and the bed. its the most comfortable for me. I try to sleep on my side when I need to switch positions, but I find having the body pillow slightly under my stomach is the best for me.
  • I was just like you--I COULD NOT fall asleep any other way but on my stomach. I was also becoming paranoid about hurting the baby, but since I wasn't uncomfortable, I didn't worry about it too much.

Then one day, I woke up and realized that I wasn't sleeping on my stomach anymore...and haven't since. It was no big deal--I guess it was just nautral.

  • I actually slept on my stomach last night.  I have to prop myself up a little bit with my leg so it's not a full on stomach sleep, but it's SO comfortable!  Much more so than sleeping on my side!
  • I still sleep on my stomach, but only if I got some padding underneath.  Otherwise, I rotate between back and side sleeping.  Also, for me it has to do with comfort.

  • You should sleep on your side (preferably your left side). Sleeping on your back isn't good...

  • I stopped sleeping on my stomach around 20 weeks.  My back I do sleep on but only for a few minutes since my sides hurt from having to sleep on them..

I stopped due to being uncomfortable nothing with being unsafe.
