we have two, but only bc one was given to us as a hand me down. but we installed it and i did NOT like it for LO. so we went and bought a new one. so we have the extra one in the garage. we don't have one in the bf's car bc its a clunker that he drives just to work and back. but we have one if he were to ever need to take LO somewhere when i wasn't around
We will have two. LO gets equal time in our cars -- mine during the day, dh's on the weekend. Also, DH does dc drop off, and I do pick up, so it makes sense that we each have one, just like we each have a car seat base.
When we take another car, like my mom's, we'll just move one of the seats.
We have 2: one in my car and one in MiL's car. She takes care of LO when DH and I are at work. I take DH's car to work on his days off if he is home with LO. We will take the car seat back from MiL when LO starts DC.
We had 3 for DD - one for each of our cars plus a smaller/lighter weight inexpensive convertible seat for air travel (an evenflo tribute I think). For DS, we're going to install the air travel seat in one of our cars and buy another convertible seat. I do daycare drop-offs and DH does pick-ups, and we use our cars pretty equally on weekends, so it would be a huge PITA to have to move convertible seats back and forth.

BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)
5 because we have two kids and two cars that get equal time. Plus we have one in MIL's car since we're living with her for a bit - she puts DS1 in there. DS2 hasn't ridden with her yet, but she can put his bucket in there if needed.
Right now we don't have any convertibles. DD's infant seat goes up to 22 pounds but it's already getting too heavy to carry around and she seems like she's scrunched up in there to me. We plan on going to look at the Graco Mysize 65 from BRU next weekend. Graco has a $25 rebate per seat til October 31st. We're taking my car to do the test install because I have a 2005 Ford Escape and there's already limited leg room on the passenger side due to the space needed in the back for the infant car seat. We'll get 2 convertibles. I do drop off at daycare and DH picks up, plus we switch off which car we drive on the weekends so it makes sense to have 2 seats. Plus I don't want to deal with re-installing all the time anyway.

@missy0483 I don't know if there's a reason you're going to BRU (gc, credit, whatever), but Target has their version of that seat on sale for $160 this week! We got it last week, and did a price adjustment this week. It's more to start with because of extra padding, I think, but with the sale, it's less than the BRU seat!
@shellbell3845 I have a 20% off coupon for BRU that expires the end of the month so that'll bring the price down to $144 each. I have like $80 in gift cards for there as well. I've heard that if you're buying 2 identical seats you can ask for the 10% twin discount on top of it lol. We'll see if that one works. If not, we're still getting a good deal.

We have 5 because two kids and we both drive them around plus MIL watches them during the week. Although the one's we bought for DD aren't installed yet. One Britax Marathon, Three Diono Radians and the fifth one is a Graco MyRide that I bought on crazy clearance at Sears for $24!
We have 3, one for each of our cars and one in grandma's car. We just moved DD to a booster and moved LO to the convertible seat (rear facing). He was getting too long for the bucket and too heavy! I was carrying him and the bucket into daycare each morning and didn't have enough arms since he is too heavy for me to carry while in it.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!
We currently don't own one. But I plan on getting 2-one for each vehicle. DD rides in my car 95%+ of the time, so I want something that will last awhile. We'll be getting something smaller and cheaper for MH truck-something we can easily move around to IL vehicles, or wherever.

Currently we have one infant carrier/seat and move it from car to car (I drop off at dc, H picks up). When we switch to the convertible seats, I think we'll eventually get two - but perhaps we'll leave the infant one in H's car until babyG doesn't fit... He's just getting to heavy to use as a carrier much longer - I think he still has plenty of room...? (How do you really know?)

@hammysmommy from the "Car Seats For The Littles FB group: Once the height OR the weight limits are met the seat is outgrown regardless of how much head room there is.

"But many carseats list what we call the “1 inch rule”. The 1 inch rule states that your child has outgrown that seat in the rear-facing position once there is only 1″ between the top of the child’s head and the top of the shell of the carseat." - carseatblog.com
Yes, but if they reach the height limit before the 1 inch rule, it's still outgrown. So if the limit is 29 inches and your baby is 29 inches but still has 5 inches above their head, it's still outgrown. It's whatever limit they reach first I believe.

@Missy0483 and @Versed - thanks! Our seat goes to 32" (just checked) and 35lbs, so we've got 5/6" (I can't recall how tall he was last month) and ~17lbs to go -->should have another month at least!

We have 4 (two in each car) because we have 2under2. Baby is still in the infant carrier, but we'll be switching to a convertible soon. He falls asleep really well in the infant car seat. We have 3 Chicco Nextfit and 1 Britax Marathon. I love the Nextfit.
