Irregular Gestational Sac + UPDATE

I had my first ultrasound on Friday, I was 6w 4 days, we saw flicker, heard hb is was 124. The doctor called me at work today to say that the gestational sac looks irregular and my pregnancy may not be viable, but if I am still pregnant in 3 weeks to schedule with an ob and look again, and do blood tests.

I had to leave work as I am shocked and scared..

I have not any any bleeding, no cramps, I feel very pregnant. Has anyone had any experience with this? I am trying to stay off of google. I feel like I am just waiting to miscarry:(

I havn't experienced this. Although I have suffered multiple miscarriages. The one thing I learnt through my losses, is that you can't control what will happen. If it's not meant to be, no amount of worrying or willing will make it stick. Try to relax, and enjoy the fact you saw a heartbeat, and today you are pregnant.

With my fourth pregnancy I had an irregularly shaped sac along with an enlarged yolk sac. Both are not good indicators for a successful pregnancy. However, my baby was also measuring over a week behind and never had a heart rate over 120. Was the baby measuring appropriately?

At this stage, @taahira is correct, you can't control what will happen so try not to worry too much. I really hope your next ultrasound gives you better news.

And what? Wait three weeks? I would call the ob and ask for another ultrasound in a week or two at the most so you can see what's going on.

Thank you for your response, yes the baby's size was fine.

I left a message for her to call me back, I was too stunned to ask about the shape, my liklihood of getting through it etc.

I'll ask if I can go sooner for another look, 3 weeks is a lifetime. Might as well be 3 years.

With my last pg, I had the same news at 6 weeks. I was told to go home and wait to bleed. She is now 17 months old! My friend also had an irregular sac and has a 2 year old. It's so hard but try to stay positive!

Just wanted to update this in case its googled..

Went yesterday to see my ob, who completely disagreed with my gen practitioner's statements about viability.

My Gestational sac was marked as irregularly shaped ( which, its not, one ultrasound pic could be interpreted that way, although my ob saw the fetus in the way, not the shape of the sac)

Either way, her advice to me was that if there is cardiac activity, an irregularly shaped sac means nothing. When an irregularly shaped sac is accompanied with no fetal pole, heartbeat..etc.. thats when viability comes into question.

She did another ultrasound and baby is measuring perfect and heartbeat went up to 179. I am sooooo relieved, everything looks good:)
