Braxton Hicks?!

I got these feelings with my first baby but not this early on...Let me explain. Everything I've read says I'm having Braxton Hicks contractions but aren't those supposed to come and go like regular contractions? What happens to me is that my belly will tighten up really bad and not relax for a long time (an hour, several hours, whatever). It's so uncomfortable and I can't figure out how to get my belly to relax. I've changed positions, tried stretching, etc and it still continues. Any ideas??

Re: Braxton Hicks?!

  • That happens to me all the time. It's usually when I over do it. So if I sit down and rub my belly it usually relaxes.

  • They are not like regular contractions and at this point it would not be a good sign if they were timetable. The best solution is to sit down, put your feet up and drink lots of water.

  • If the tightening is lasting for longer than a few minutes at a time, you may need to relax and rehydrate like the other ladies suggest. This is my second child and I am feeling them much sooner. I love getting them though, it is like a reaffirming hug from my child.

Hey quick question about BH. I'm just about 19 weeks and have been experiencing my stomach getting hard. It happens multiple times everyday. I have no pain except normal cranping. Should I be concerned or is this normal?
You just described BH contractions.  So, no, you shouldn't be concerned.  They are normal.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.

  • jamiemckeel Just a random thought if the rehydration and relaxing hasn't alleviated anything: Sometimes I'm just uncomfortable with anything being on my waist line. If I'm at home, I'll take off my pants or try wearing a flowy dress. I think my poor abs may just need a break sometimes and it could possibly help you. Maybe removing outside pressure will relieve internal pressure?
