Early colostrum?

So about week 25 (3 wks ago) I started leaking colostrum. Anyone else having this issue? I bought some washable pads for my bra, but they get itchy and I feel like I'm constantly trying to itch down my shirt :P
Any suggestions for comfier pads?
Thanks ladies!!!!

Re: Early colostrum?

  • Have you tried disposable pads? Maybe they would be less itchy because they're more absorbent.

  • I use washable NUK cotton pads, been leaking for a long time now.. started early with my first pregnancy but definitely not this early. Oh well, get used to it! I had to wear the nursing pads for the entire time I nursed, they never stopped leaking (like some lucky ladies). I nursed for 13-14 months, up until I got pregnant. So I've really only had a break from them for a few months and now I'm leaking again... gonna have to use them again for the next 2 years probably.. ugh!

  • I've experienced leaking twice... once at about 15 weeks and once again at around 18 or 19 weeks.  It shocked me! But it hasn't been an inconvenience since it didn't last long.

  • I'm a FTM and started leaking at 16w. It hasn't been consistently a lot the whole time but still annoying. Do you use any nipple butter? That's what I used for my itchy nipples.

  • I started leaking 2 weeks ago @ 27 weeks. It's off and on, though, so I'm not really wearing nursing pads. It's not a daily thing I notice.  But I use cocoa butter on my itchy/dry nipples and it works super well.

  • I have some Medela washable nursing pads and also Bamboobies, and they both worked well for me, but I never had much of a leaking problem. It was never enough to soak through.

I have little dried up bits of colostrum on my nipples that I wash off in the shower, but I'm not leaking yet this time.
  • I've been using NUK. I don't know whether it's cause they're flat and they have to bend to curve inside my bra that is annoying me? I'll definitely try the other brands!!
I find dried stuff on them every day, not a ton, but enough that I'd worry about staining my bras.
    Thanks for the advice!
  • I'm starting to have "let-downs" already. Not sure why this early.

  • Try a different reusable pad. I've never had a problem with mine itching. They are many years old and made out of cotton flannel. I never liked the disposable ones. They always made me feel like I was wearing a menstrual pad on my boob.
  • I'm 26 weeks and noticed it a few weeks ago too. :)
