Trouble TTC

My first post...

So, Hello... My name is Emily, I'm 22, turning 23 in April. My partners name is Steve, he's 23, 24 in July. We've been engaged since 2nd of Feb 2014. We've been together since I was 18, so it's our 4th anniversary this year. Ups and down, good times and bad, but I love him and I wouldn't change him for the world. We've been TTC since Feb 2013. I guess my "experience" started in 2012 I'd been having horrid pains and cramps and had half a dozen appearances from AF since I had the contraceptive implant when I was 16 (2009-2012, then 2012-2013) and my doctor at the time gave me a diagnosis of pcos in Feb 2013. Since then we've TTC... unsuccessfully. I've had scans and hospital visits and it seems like a hundred BFN's... In Dec 2013 I finally got an appointment with a gynaecologist who referred me to have an exploratory laparoscopy for suspected endo. I waited 9 months to have the stupid procedure, thinking that all my pain and everything would go away. But they found nothing. I cried when they told me, because after so long, something would've been better then nothing. So currently Steve and I are looking into tests on his side of things to make sure that's all good and then go from there. The hardest thing is all my friends have 1 or 2 babies and all my older siblings as well. I simply cannot get away from it. I'm hoping now that I took the leap of faith to post on here I can both give and receive positive vibes and advice :) Thanks for reading xx

  • Welcome, sorry for your struggles!

Have you been going through so many steps and even surgery, but your partner hasn't even had a sperm analysis yet? If you are working with a GYN, I hope you will ask for a referral to an RE. They are much more highly trained to interpret your entire hormone panel. I've also never heard of REs making the assumption once one cause of IF is found and just moving forward with treatment before testing the male partner.

Hopefully you'll get some clearer answers now with YP's testing!! Hope it's just some mild male factor that's easily overcome with simple lifestyle changes, meds, and/or IUI. :)

If there is one thing I have learned, it's never ever assume that just because your cycle appears normal, there is no issue.  2 cases in point:

    1)  My best friend had periods.  When she was TTC, she learned that she never ovulates
    2)  I have a cycle so dependable I could set my watch by when AF would arrive.  It wasn't until I was TTC that I figured out that while I do ovulate, it's hella early in my cycle

  • Sorry if this has been asked but have you been temping in the morning and tracking it to see the jump which confirms ovulation? Try using the app Kindara or FertilityFriend.
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • Welcome.. Sorry you find yourself here.. This is such a great supportive place to be! I also agree with what others have said... See a RE.. they are so much better at getting you pregnant!

RE Appt:  10/28/ U/S showed follicles, but also small damaged ovaries.
B/W results CD0: all normal except low AMH at 1.3
    Cycle 1-November (TI)- Femera 2.5mg, 2mg Estradoil, and Trigger=BFN

  • Welcome & good luck! I'm new here too. :) OP, as far as assuming you ovulate, do you temp or use OPKs? Like PPs have mentioned, it is possible to have a predictable cycle but not ovulate.

Thanks everybody :) I feel so welcome it's great :D I started temping but I got distracted and bad sleeping habit made me unsure of when to take so I stopped but I've bought OPK's and I'm going to be looking into those soon.

     *child mentioned*
A lot of people have told me that I can't handle being pregnant because of my mental health, which I think is a crock of shit but I get it a lot from my family because I'm the baby... My brother and his wife however waited until they were a lot older to start TTC and he is now 35 with a 1yo son. I do not want to be waiting that long because I wasn't able to get it sorted earlier so I'm making my health my number one priority. xx

  • Welcome!  I also have PCOS and after extensive temping/charging on Fertility Friend, I realized that although I get my period every 21-35 days, I only ovulate about 1/3 of the time, if that.  So, I'm proof that having a period doesn't necessarily mean that you are ovulating.  I would even get the LH surge on ovulation strips, but then my temp wouldn't really go up, or wouldn't stay up long.  So, weak ovulation or no ovulation with possible progesterone issues.

I also agree that getting YP tested is a great thing now.  My first RE waited forever to test my husband and it turns out that the whole frigging time we were doing IUIs that he had MFI. So...yeah, get your partner tested.  Having all the info will help you so much.
  • thank you @tumbleweed123, thats very helpful advice. I'll definitely start temping again and i'll see how i go with that

  • Welcome! I'm new too! Good luck.

Here's hoping you are outta here quickly!
  • Welcome! So sorry that you had to go through surgery. I hope you get some clarity on YP's situation. I thought it was me at first, but in the end it turned out we didn't have any spermies. So, it is always good to get both sides of the picture. Good luck!
