Sleeping with a bib?

This might be a silly question but here goes.

DS spits up a lot (about every other time he nurses) so pretty much he nurses, we fasten on a bib, and save ourselves a lot of outfit changes. I haven't worried about the bibs during naps because he's been in the swing right under my nose in the living room.

Now that we're transitioning to the crib for naps though, it occurs to me this could be a strangulation and/or suffocation hazard... does that seem like a concern to anyone else? I have a monitor, but I worry I might not notice right away if he flips the bib up and it covers his nose and mouth. Obviously better to have a laundry issue to clean spit up than to have a suffocation issue, but curious what other moms do.

TIA!

Re: Sleeping with a bib?

  • My LO spits up every time he eats (soaks himself - sometimes an hour or two after eating). I'd never use a bib unsupervised at this age. Just do laundry.

  • I wouldn't let my LO wear a bib If I was not supervising.

Ditto the above. Mine can be a sloppy eater, but doesn't spit a lot. I tuck an oblong shaped burp cloth under her chin/chest while she nurses, then use it to quickly wipe her face/dry my breast right after she burps. Then it's gone away from her

I don't suggest a bib while unsupervised either.

A STM trick that was given to me.... get some of the waterproof pads (something like this:  https://www.amazon.com/American-Baby-Company-Waterproof-Quilt-Like/dp/B0014HOLFI/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1413554597&sr=8-11&keywords=waterproof+crib+pad)

What I did was mattress, waterproof pad, sheet, waterproof pad, sheet.  That way if there is a mess, all you have to do is take off the top sheet/pad and you still have another sheet already on.  I do this in our PNP (and crib but we haven't transitioned full time yet) and it has worked great when you don't have a lot of time or energy to put on a new sheet right at that moment.

ETA: search around, I got the pads for cheap... I just did a quick search to show you what I was talking about.

I do this too! Makes it much easier in the middle of the night or when I am just lazy.
