Alessandra...horrible name?

I know you ladies are probably getting sick of the name posts, but after seeing all of the wonderful names F15 have chosen, I trust your opinion.

Alright, so we picked the name Alice for a girl. But, I really want to honor my mom who was an amazingly wonderful woman. She died right before my first son's 1st birthday. Her name was Sandra (and went by Sandy). What do you ladies think of the name Alessandra for a girl and calling her Alice? And what about a middle name...any suggestions? Our last name sounds like Hankey.

It's a nice combo of the name you like and your mom's. Sorry about your mama, I'm sure she'll smile down though knowing her grandbaby has her name in some way

I prefer Alexsandra but Alessandra is very nice and unique without being youneek. It's a great way to honor your mom. I think Elise would be a gorgeous mn for it.

crystalw88, Alessandra is actually the greek/italian version of Alexandra. It means "defender of mankind".

I think its a really pretty name. My cousin's name is Alessandra, she live's in Italy, and its a popular name there I guess. I'm not sure about Alice as a NN, but than again My friends son's name is Christopher, and then call him Devon, so i guess its what the parents choose to call them.

SS: I don't like it with the nn Alice. But Alessandra is okay and I like the sentiment behind it. You could also do fn Alice with a mn that starts with an S.

Before I clicked I thought:

I wouldn't side-eye the name at all but prefer Alexandra.

After reading I think:

I freaking love it and is an amazing way to honour your Mom.

I think Alessandra is beautiful. There is a mom in my other BMB who has an Alessandra and I have always admired the name.

I also think Elise would be a lovely middle name.

So here was my thought (out loud) process:

Alice is the name we agreed on....okay, what about Sandra for a middle name. Alice Sandra. Not great, but wait Alice Sandra = Alessandra. My mom's name blended with the name we chose. Can Alice still be pulled off for a NN because it is the name I love?

Does it make a little more sense now?

Plus, this would make my Jewish grammy happy. She really wants the baby named after my mom if it's a girl. And apparently middle names don't count according to her.

If you don't think it's too UNNEEK you could always have the nickname "Alice" spelled "Aless". I doubt she'll write her nickname down much, but maybe to justify the nickname in your head? Idk

Totally makes sense! I prefer Alessandra though I do like Alice, but more as a standalone kwim? Can not go wrong either way, both are great!! I just think Alessandra is soooo good.
