Trouble TTC

New kid on the block here

Hi everyone. I'm going to go ahead & apologize for the length of this post. I'm 29, DH is 30 (as of yesterday). A little background...I was 21 when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Had a complete thyroidectomy 2 days before Christmas. Since then my thyroid levels have never been regular until this last year but they are not consistent. My endocrinologist has monitors me closely & my levels are in the needed range for pregnancy. We've been trying for 15 months now. In the past I have been told I had cysts on my ovaries but never an official PCOS diagnosis. My progesterone levels are good & just did my HSG yesterday morning so I won't get those test results back til next week. DH's SA came back perfect, too. My OB/GYN will do 1 other test, depending on my HSG results then send me on to a fertility clinic. The closest one is 5 hours away. I'm under a tremendous amount of stress (dad diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, mom becoming mentally unstable, taking over their personal & business affairs while being 6 hours away, just to name a few things) I know stress is a huge factor for conceiving & Im sure its just complicating things even more in our situation. I get massages, use essential oils, crafts....anything & everything to help me de-stress. No one knows we are trying so I have lurked here for a few months. You all are so supportive & I have already learned so much from y'all already. Thanks for listening to me.

Re: New kid on the block here

  • welcome!  you certainly are dealing with a lot.  I have no idea how you would manage a fertility clinic that is 5 hours away.  I personally go about 4 to 5 times at given points during a cycle.

Welcome to 3T. Sorry for all you have been through!

Like @NariaDreaming‌ mentioned, some REs will use OB offices as satellite clinics.

My RE is about 4 hrs away and I am able to do all my monitoring through my regular OBGYN. RE makes the protocol for each cycle and I email him after monitoring appts and let him know how I'm progressing. We will skype for our WTF appts and he makes one face-to-face sit down appt. a month. Hopefully there is something similar in your situation. A 10 hr round trip would almost be impossible. Good luck, sweetie!

Just wanted to say welcome and hugs for the tough time right now. (( ))
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • Welcome, so sorry for all the stress in your family right now!  Hope you can get some questions answered soon.  I'm just using an OB/GYN as there are no REs in my state.  Sounds like you've lurked for a while so you know what the process should sort of look like and you can talk to your OB about that.
    Me: 24 | DH: 25
    Married: May 2013
    TTC: Since Sept. 2013
Me: unusually short cycles, anovulation, possible tubal issue on right side
DH: Azoospermia, likely not blockage, just doesn't produce any
  • Welcome. It sounds like you definitely have a lot on your plate. I came back from my honeymoon to learn the next week my mom had cancer and they gave her 3 months to live, so if you ever need a shoulder or an ear I'm here for you. I agree with everyone else telling you that the stress isn't the cause of your infertility, so be nice to yourself. Make sure you take care of yourself while you are trying to take care of everyone else. I am keeping you in my thoughts and wishing you luck m

  • Welcome! I can't believe how much you are dealing with right now. You are a strong lady! I wish you the best luck as you do all the testing. I hope something like what @AnnaClaire256‌ does can work for you, because 5 hours would be crazy.

I stress about my stress level all the time and that is totally unproductive. Listen to @NariaDreaming‌.

All the ladies here are incredibly supportive and helpful! I hope your stay here is short.

  • Welcome to the community. I'm sorry you find yourself here. Everybody pretty much covered it, but I just wanted to reiterate that stress doesn't seem to be your main IF issue, so don't be too hard on yourself. It sounds like you're doing what you can to take care of yourself even though you have SO MUCH going on right now. My hat is off to you for juggling everything.

  • Welcome.  Our RE is over 3 hours away.  I do all of my testing through a hospital about half hour away and they just send the results to the RE.  Hopefully this will be an option for you, especially if you have to do an iui or any injectables with US.  I can do everything but the IUI close, and then just go there for that.  Saves a lot of time.
