Pregnant after a Loss

Advice relating to small gest. sac greatly appreciated. & is my doctor being incompetent or is it me

Hi ladies I posted over a week ago after my first scan, I was concerned that baby didn't measure as far as I expected, 6w4d was the measurement actually. Today I had a follow up (a week later) and baby grew perfectly measuring 7w5d. The thing is the gestational sac didn't grow from last week. I have read that drinking water helps it grow and last week I drank or ate almost nothing so I am feeling very guilty. But that's not my point. Because the sac was smaller they put back my edd again and only count me as being 7w1d which is impossible. The nurse wasn't concerned at all and when I questioned her about it she was very rude and unhelpful. And I will not be called for a follow up scan. And I wasn't told the size of yolk sac but I saw it on the screen measure 6mm which at 7-8 weeks can't be good since greater than 6mm could indicate an abnormality. I have already had two miscarriages this year. Should I ask for these things to be followed up? Does anyone have experience with this? Does the gestational sac catch up? Any advice is so appreciated!

  • I have no advices but I'm sorry that you're having this stress. Can you ask to have a message sent directly to your OB?

  • My OB is the worst. It is not possible to contact her directly. And it's possible to only contact her secretary a few days a week between certain hours. One day I called and OB answered as the secretary was out and she had absolutely no clue who I was even when I gave my name and the reason I was calling. I don't think I'll go back to her.
  • Get different ob! They will probably do a u/s too since first time patient. It's your right to a second opinion.

  • I had my previous scan in a different clinic while I was waiting for this appointment. When I referred to my previous scan in one of my questions to her she got pissed off and told me that "serial" scanning causes dyslexia. Honestly I don't know what I'm thinking. I should already be on to a new clinic.

Umm yeah, find a new doctor ASAP. A good doctor should welcome your questions not get upset with you. At every app my doctor tells me to call any time with any concern because that's what he's there for.

  • I agree with the other ladies. You need to find a new doctor. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Please find a new doctor, explain your history and kindly demand to have an u/s done. Wishing you the best of luck. Please keep us updated.
  • Okay I may sound like a broken record but here I go again. Your doctor works for you! Wth? Dyslexia? She sounds like Dr. Google. My ob/gyn said I can have a scan anytime. She knows how many times I miscarried and wants my mind at ease. You pay the doctor! You pay for insurance. You pick her! My first ob/gyn in Texas was awful. Went on day one and was told these would be my appointment days and this is the procedure, if I was still pregnant in a few weeks they'd see me if I didn't miscarry by then...ummmmm next! You are a patient not a child. You are a customer and this is your most important asset your child and your health. My new ob does not even compare. She is soooooo nice and supportive. Even seeing me before Vacay to discuss everything and make sure I was ready and gave me HER personal email in case I need to contact her on Vacay. She is so great it scares me! I would cry if she left. Seriously she's that good. I am thankful every time I see her that she's my ob! Not the other doctor, I am so glad I switched!

  • PS your scan looks fine to me (not a medical professional). Get a second opinion and tell her to out those crap lines in her pipe and smoke em! Sorry I hate talking like that but I feel protective of a PGal gals and I hate when I read about bully doctors on hear.

  • PSS why is she measuring the sac so much when the embryo/baby is present? My tech focused on that and only measured the sac a lot up til hat point.

I have no idea. She used the measurement of baby and sac diameter to get some sort of average of gestational age. So even though baby is 7+5. My pregnancy is only 7+1 in age. Makes no sense to me. But I did read that the sac is supposed to grow a mm per day which my didn't do.

Thanks for all the support ladies!
  • @Loanne01 in the beginning mine was not behaving medically perfectly either. Anyway...early ultrasounds can be off by +/- 6 days in total so hang in there! You are not out yet not even by a longshot.
