Fit Friday

Hi all, and happy Friday! One week closer to meeting our LOs :)

As a reminder, this is a check-in for anyone who is trying to be active during pregnancy. I'm looking forward to hearing from all you.

So, how did your week go? Did you fit in some fitness?

We've talked a lot about working out and our fitness goals, but of course, that's not all their is to being healthy and fit. Which got me thinking...
QOTW: Are there other areas you're focusing on to be healthy, besides exercise? How is that going?

  • Uhhh...not such a good exercising week. All classes were on break this week at the gym, so I've just been walking a little. Next week WILL be better :)

I've tried to keep up with the clean eating, but it's been really hard. I am still having a hard time with just eating meat, I like meat wrapped in carbs, so it's not going as good as I would like.

BTW - I changed my screen name, I used to be KimberlyC84, but wanted something a little less personal :)

  • Yay! I love fit Friday. Just back from my fourth swim of the week. The setbacks are the usual expected things, so not worth mentioning :P

So far I am on track with my fitness goals. I was just thinking this morning that I am actually very lucky to have had the first and second trimesters during the summer, which is just a more active season all around. And when it's time for hibernation, I'll be so big and heavy that I won't mind my pool membership expiring (November 17).

In other ways to stay healthy I am starting meditation. I'd like to do a natural birth if possible, and I think some meditation practices will help me to "stay in the moment" and manage the pain better. But meditation is something you have to learn how to do, so I'm getting started now. It is really hard to stop my mind from wandering off!! I really need to practice every day.
  • @gradschoolmom1234 I slept ALL DAY Monday when we got back and it was hard getting motivated to go to work on Tuesday so it definitely caught up with me :)

  • Stayed on track for the most part this week: kickboxing, cross circuit, bodysculpt, an off day then today I'm treadmill walking and some elliptical. Really proud that I've still been making it to class even though I'm modifying when I need to.

Hmmm....if trying to stay healthy is by avoiding a donut everyday lol then I'm on track lol!!! I try to stick with eggs or oatmeal in the morn, leftovers for lunch and we haven't been doing too bad for din. Try to keep the carbs on check, but I love dessert and chocolate this trimester, ugh!

  • I did well this week. Got in all of my workouts (kickboxing, running, lifting, stepmill, Zumba.) Tonight I am giving myself a break from the gym and going to a haunted house instead though!

I try to eat healthier, and do pretty well for the most part.  This pregnancy has me craving sugar pretty badly (I just ate a really healthy salad for lunch followed by three pieces of Halloween candy.) Overall I feel like I'm doing better eating-wise than I did with DD. With her I had a lot of buffalo chicken and milkshakes. I haven't had either of those things this time around!

When I'm not pregnant I find it a lot easier not to give into the cravings. I don't eat a lot of dairy or bread when I'm not pregnant (but probably make up for those calories in beer! ;) )  I am going to focus on cutting out those things out again when I have this baby.

  • @anna930 I hope those sniffles go away soon. Sounds like a really busy week. Kudos for still getting in your walks most days!! I feel the same way about crafting - a little creative/making time really makes me feel better. I always forget that until I do something crafty and feel great :)

@sysakbaby Hooray for camping! It looks beautiful. And how adorable is your dog all curled up like that!

@love2travel2014 Sorry it was a rough week. Why did they cancel all the classes at once?? And I've also had a hard time with meat - it just icks me out a bit.

@mousy345 I'm so impressed at how well you're keeping up with your swimming! And I've been practicing meditaton, too. I use an app called "Calm" for some guided meditation and I'm reading a book called Mindful Birthing that I really like. I don't focus my mind easily, either, but that's okay....it's all about learning to just notice those thoughts as they come up and then let them wash away again. BTW, I was talking toanother mom who just had her 3rd baby. She said mindfulness/meditation has helped her so much, not just with her most recent labor but with being a parent.

@gradschoolmom1234 - I'm with you on tidy space = happy heart. When I feel stressed, I often catch myself cleaning up, and it does help me feel less overwhelmed.

@hufflepuff42 - good luck next week! I'm also still trying to figure out my exercise ball. I just forget about it. I think I only sat on it one day this week :(

@nbateman5 congrats on a great week! enjoy your chocolate, too!!

@colliebabe Oooo, enjoy the haunted house! I honestly think it wouldn't be safe for me to go in one right now. I'd definitely get scared and actually pee my pants. ;)

  • @megbmeg: thanks for sharing the name of the app and book. I was looking at meditation apps but got a bit bewildered by the variety. I will look into the one you name here.

So, how did your week go? Did you fit in some fitness?
I did have one victory - I went on a good hike while we were camping over the weekend. I wasn't sure if it would be too much for me, but I took it slow, drank a lot of water, and was really happy I could do it. It turned out that camping while pregnant was fine, but camping with our dog was rough. He was SO anxious about sleeping in a tent. Poor guy! Other than the hike, I only got in one other walk, but honestly I'm proud I even did that. It has been a rough week - I've had this crazy, miserable rash (and OB isn't sure what it is, so we're trying something & seeing what happens), and it has been the busiest week of the year at work, AND my car broke down. Fun times. So one walk is a victory!

Like I was telling mousy345, I've been trying to practice meditation/mindfulness, which has helped with some anxiety about pregnancy. I've also tried to be more aware of what I'm eating, but it's been really hard this week. When both I and DH are swamped with work, our food plans fall apart - the groceries don't get bought, or the dishes don't get done, and it all cascades into frantic eating of whatever is around. All I want today is a big fruit salad and a bunch of roasted vegetables. Or I've been dreaming about this creamy butternut squash soup my MIL makes.

It was a good week. Crossfit 5 times and one long walk. I kept having to tell DH to slow down, I don't walk as fast as I used to.

As far as what else I'm doing, mostly it has to do with keeping stress in check. My job can be stressful if I let it be, so I'm trying really hard to stay emotionally detached, My coworkers have been very understanding. Most of them are men who have kids.

Also - how about those Giants!

I go to a private? company owned? (not sure what it's called) gym so all classes are cancelled for a week at the end of each session! I usually don't mind because I keep going on my own, but my motivation is dwindling here lately.  :)
