WWYD, Baptism party

So our baby girl is getting baptized Dec. 7th. Right between Thanksgiving and Christmas so DH and I thought just church and lunch for our parents, siblings and their immediate family. I was going to order bbq catering from a local place so no stress on cooking etc. We would have it at my MIL s simply because we live in an apt. she lives close and she offered. Well now she is all upset that we are not having a giant party with all the extended relative's etc. I don't want this, nor can we really afford it and we were planning on a big 1st birthday party. Am I jerk if I stick to my guns since we are using her house?

I don't want a big party, if we really felt it was important we could figure it out, but I was planning on doing a big one for her first. So I guess I could be using the money thing as an excuse.

Tell her your kid you rules. She had her chance to throw a big baptism party for her own little ones.

No ma'am stick to your guns! We had a small event (11 ppl) and went to a restaurant. People will have to respect that you wanted to do it small - they're not forking over the dough.

This might be the UO here but IMO everyone you invite to the baptism should be invited to the party. I would feel very awkward inviting people to church but not to the party after church.
