We had a meeting with the church about baptism and came out to 2 text messages, 4 voice mails from my mom to call. So we went over....
My mom told us today that have to have emergency open heart surgery tomorrow to repair (possibly replace) one of her heart valves.
I could use some T&Ps for her surgery tomorrow. Apparently when it rains it pours in my family and dad is leaving to start his new job on Nov 3rd.
***************UPDATE**************
Mom is in recovery. Surgery was about 2.5 hours (shorter than expected) and they were able to repair her valve, yay! She already woke up once, but they re-sedated her for a few more hours to help with pain management. All in all, it looks good. The doctor said they caught everything early so there should be no lasting effects on her. She should be back to her normal self in a few months. Next, comes recovery. They will move her out of ICU and into a room tomorrow. We got to see her once today, next will be around 4pm and my grandma is going to be here, eek! The next 24 hours are critical as they wake her up and make sure that it is all going well. Apparently there is a possibility of a stroke for any heart surgery.
Thanks for all the prayers and good vibes! They worked! I'll update more as the day goes on.
******* UPDATE #2*******
So I'm home, but we couldn't have asked for a better experience today. Mom was awake around 3:30ish (WAY earlier than expected) and her breathing tube was out by 4:15, so the next time we saw her she was alert, hoarse, groggy, but talking a little. My grandma came and started crying; it was amusing b/c mom looked MUCH better than we all expected. We hung out until 6:30 and went in to say good-bye and she was VERY groggy, (thankyouverymuchmorphine) but she was starting to talk better and was back to scolding us a little. She scolded me for being there all day and my dad for giving her a small ice chip. She should be out of ICU tomorrow morning and we're looking at a 5 day stay in the hospital with a LONG recovery at home. But, things couldn't have gone any better, the staff has been awesome, and it just went so smoothly.
Thank you all for the prayers and good juju today. We definitely needed it!
Thanks everyone! I'm nervous, but keep telling myself that this is a relatively routine procedure considering all the heart surgeries out there. (apparently, it is routine according to my sister's roomie who is a cardiac rehab student)
T&Ps to you and family. I'm guessing the good part is they realized there was an issue and there's a game plan (that always makes me feel slightly better at least)

It does. I'm glad they caught it now and now when she is older or when it is worse. She's relatively young -- 55 and should recover "quickly". They say no driving or doing anything for a month. She's out of work for at least 8 weeks, and full recovery is 6 months.
Praying for you and your family. You all have been through so much in the last few months, I am truly amazed by how strong and close you guys are. Please take care of yourself.
Ainslie325 That is exactly what her story was and the same valve. She's 56 and luckily all is well, so your story (and all the others here) are very helpful and comforting. She was a ROCKSTAR and will be back to her old self in no time.
We are so lucky that they caught it early, heard the murmur, and that the doctor investigated because the doc thought it was asthma.
