DH's cousin just gave birth to her 3rd baby last week. A sweet little boy named Nixon. Doctors have discovered that he has a hole in his heart and only 2 aorta valves, when he should have 3. He is being transported to the childrens hospital tonight and will likely be in surgery tomorrow to replace the missing valve. He is not doing well and we are all very worried. Any extra prayers would be very much appreciated. TIA
Thanks you guys!! My brother's girlfriend is a nurse in the PICU at the hospital where the surgery will take place. So he will actually be in her unit for his recovery. She is being so amazing already, studied up on his case and is making sure that she'll be around tomorrow for DH's cousin so that she can answer any questions and try and keep all the family in the loop without the mom having to do anything but worry about her babe. I have faith that all will be well, but my heart is just aching that there is nothing I can do for this poor little guy.
Oh I know @kari5186 . DH's mom knew my brother's gf worked there. Aside from informing me of Nixon's condition, the real purpose of her call was to ask me to call her and see if she could check on him and keep us in the loop. She is really just the best person ever! Such a good nurse and so sensitive and sweet that she really relates to the parents struggling when their babies are in the hospital. She is the one I text with every single symptom M ever has. She has even gone so far as to relay my text messages to the Intensivist on staff to help me determine if a trip to the ER was necessary or if I should wait. I know baby Nix is in great hands with her and all the doctors there.
Impatiently waiting for an update on how everything went today. I keep forgetting that it's 2 hrs behind at home. Thank you all for the T&Ps. Hope to get some positive news about Nixon's surgery very soon.
Just got an update from my MIL. They have been running tests all day, but right now the medical team feels it's too risky to perform the surgery. They will be running more tests tonight and will reevaluate tomorrow. They may wait a while longer to let him get bigger before operating.
Nothing yet. I'm waiting to hear from everyone to see how Nixon's night went. I've been tempted to call all morning but have been holding back since I know the last thing they need is another person bombarding them with questions. H's mom will text me when she hears from her sister (Nixon's granny). Hopefully it's soon and really hoping the news is that he's strong enough for surgery.
thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. After many tests and evaluations it looks like all we can do is hurry up and wait. Nixon has stabilized and is doing well, and because of this his cardiologist would like to wait a couple months to do the surgery when he is bigger. We found out that his heart defect is hereditary, so both of his brothers are being tested and his parents as well (to determine which side of the family it came from). They will be going home Monday. The plan for now is frequent trips into the Childrens Hospital in the city, and in between doctors visits a health nurse will be making house calls to check his blood pressure in his legs (this is the major symptom they are watching for). For now, baby Nix is doing good and I'm so happy that DH's cousin and her husband get to take him home right away. He was not doing well a few days ago which is why they rushed him in so quickly. I would like to think that God heard all our prayers and he is giving Nixon some time to get bigger and stronger before they need to operate to repair the defect. Thanks you all again! Xoxo
