How often will you get LOs photo professionally taken? My mom said she did it at newborn, 3mo, 6mo and a year. I feel like this will be super expensive, even if we do 3mo and 6mo at a JCPennys studio. What will you all do?
We had 1 day old and 11 day old photos taken. We also have a mini holiday session scheduled for the beginning of November, DD will be 3 months at that time. I am hoping to get photos taken in the spring and then again for her one year. It can get expensive, but I justify it in my mind saying that we only have one chance to get these photos taken!
With dd, I did newborn, three month, six month and a year. With ds, I will probably skip the three month session and do six month pictures and a year.
I have found some really good photography deals on Living Social and Groupon. I have gotten pictures taken three times doing this and have had two really good experiences. I have spent around $50 each time and got anywhere between 10 and 40 images. I would make sure to look at the photographer's portfolio and call and ask them about their availability before buying an online deal.
We did newborn photos, and again at 2 months, just because we were taking DD1 in for her 3 yr photos. I kinda just do them at random when I get good coupons or for an occasion. We will probably do them in the spring for Easter (cause I have a $50 gift card that expires after that) and of course at 1 yr.
I usually get them at JC Penney and have found that if you find coupons and deals they can be super cheap. Join the photo club - it's $20 but then you get free sitting fees for you and everyone who goes with you for 2 yrs. You also get like 3 $10 off coupons and a few other coupons for free sheets. I combine those with coupons they email me and I often times only spend $30-40 dollars and get a good amount of photos with that. Also, I always make the first appointment of the morning. That way they are not behind and we don't have to wait. It works out well for us.
We did a nb session, and I've already booked a 6 month mini session. The photographer I used for the nb photos recommended waiting until they're sitting up for the next round of pics and said 3 mo is kind of pointless unless you just want them done. After the 6 mo session I'll wait til she's a year to go again.
We did a package with a photographer that has 4 sessions, so we already did one at 9 days old, then we'll do a family-style session around 3 months that I'll use for Christmas cards, then 6 months, and finally 1 year. A relative also got me a package for JCPenney's, so I need to look into that and will probably do an Easter session there and maybe a few with her half-brother.
I also was a sucker and bought her 1 day old pictures from the hospital. :-\ They were too sweet to resist.
We did the newborn shoot in the hospital, and I just scheduled his 3-month at JCPenney. He's changed enough already that I think the 3-month photos will be worth it to show his progression the first year. We'll probably do 6-month and year-old shoots as well. For the year-old photos, I might book a photographer friend and do some outdoor shots.
It's been a long time since my family did a big group photo, so we might do those around 6 months as well.
We had a photographer come to the hospital and take pics of us there the day after he was born. Then we had a super casual blessing ceremony for him last week at a friend's house and my friend who is a pro took some photos there. Over Thanksgiving we're going to celebrate my brother's birthday with my whole family - 10 adults and 4 babies. My mom has hired a professional photographer to come to the vacation rental house we're staying at to take tons of pictures of each baby, all the cousins together, all the siblings and their spouses, then the whole family together. Can't wait! Then I'll do 6 month pictures, then a year, probably at JC Penney if I can find one in the area. I've honestly never seen one!
I've never taken professional photos, we always bust out the tripod for our iPhones to take upgraded looking selfies... Maybe it's time for a change haha
FYI! Our kids will be six months around Valentines Day, and local photogs (at least near me) seem to offer specials for holidays. It deff doesn't mean you need to dress LO in all hearts, just take advantage of the good deal! The photog who took our NB at one week old will be taking DS 3 month as a part of her "Fall/Holiday mini sessions"- she just doesn't know it yet
My daycare has professional photographers come in the fall and spring every year. They do individual and sibling shots and provide digital packages, so we can print as many as we like. I just buy those.
