Baby Names

"M" Boy Name help..

I have completely run out of ideas and only have one strong contender.
Here's the background. In my husbands family the oldest son of the oldest son is named David M with the mother choosing the M middle name. Every other generation goes by the M middle name. My husband is the 11th generation so there is no breaking tradition and if it's a boy our son would go by his middle name. We have a DD named Berkley so I like non traditional names but not overly unique/weird.
Any suggestions are helpful.

  • I misread that as David Bacon.

I really don't care for Macon. What about:
    Miles
    Malachi
    Marvin
    Magnus
    Malcolm
    Marcus
  • Not a fan of Macon (unless that's supposed to me Mason?  Mason is OK)

    Suggesting

    Maxwell

    Marcus

    Moses

    Maurice

    Murphy

  • Macon like Bacon?.........you can do better then that.
  • Dh's middle name is Marshall, so that's a no go.
Marcus is my brother in laws name so no for that one too and DHs Brother just named his little boy Milo so we figured Milo and Miles are too close.
Dh hates all the Max names.
Having such a hard time finding something to work and that we like. Thank you for the suggestions so far!
Macallan was the name DH likes but I am not a huge fan.

Matthew, Malachi, Mahoney, Micah, Malcolm, Marius, Mateo, Melchior, Michael, Miller, Major, Minor, Mack, Maddox, Magnus, Marcel, Marco, Marvin, Mervyn, Moses, Murdoch, Murray,
  • Mac is a cute nn. If you like that, there are lots of options, including Macallan.

Also, usually I think both parents need to love the name but you are being a good sport about being cornered into this tradition. So if you love Max, I'd keep it on your list. I think you should get final say.

I also love Magnus, Miller, Moses.

Also Muir, like John Muir (pronounced meer). I know a guy named Muir, and I've always liked it.
  • We did think about Miller for a long time, but honestly I was worried people would think we named him after beer.. lol. Maybe because DH loves Miller lite.
I thought more about that in my pregnancy brain than the whole Macon/Bacon thing which is why all of these new (other) opinions are really helpful to see how others would react to or perceive a name.

  • A guy I worked with in college had a similar tradition in his family. He named his son Mason.
My favorite M name is Murphy.
I like Mason and Malcolm best with Berkley.

Love the tradition!  Not so crazy about Macon.  I have a Maxwell and it is a great name, but two other M names are: Mitchell  and I love the name Morgan, unfortunately it is pretty unisex now so that may be a dealbreaker.

opps reread and saw your no Max names... oh well it's a fabulous name regardless
  • Okay ladies what about these:

    Macallan
    Miller
    Madoc
    Macrae
    Malone

Ditto on not liking these at all, especially since your son will actually go by his middle name. Half sound like last names and half look misspelled (or I might just not know these).

I like Maxwell, Marcus, Malcolm, Marvin, Micah, Malachi, and others previously mentioned!

  • So here are names we cannot do - marcus, any "max" name, malachi, miles, milo, Murphy. All of these are either family members names or names the dh does not go for.
Which is why we went looking for more options and found many Scottish names we like hence the list above. Almost all of them are Scottish which is of significance to us. We were also trying to avoid any names that would be shortened to Mac if we could although we both like Macallan.

  • Oh and Mitchell is a no go as that is DH's middle name

  • I do not like Madoc at all. Don't love Mcrae (which autocorrects to Macramé, by the way). Don't hate Malone.

I do really like Mac and Miller. Macallan is OK, but just as a means to Mac. I couldn't call a kid Macallan every day.
  • I'm a fan of Madoc, Micah's also an unusual m name.
  • McGregor, McNeal, Madrid, Mallon, Manfred......these are nms, but they are last names of people I know. Might be your style.
  • Macon is bad... Too close to bacon.

Milo. Mitchell. Miles. Malachi. Micah. Marshall. Michael. Mason. Morgan. Matthew. Murray. Maverick.
  • I know Mc names aren't popular around here, but my DS is McKinnon. I love his name and that he can go by Mac

    Marius
Mared (know of someone w this name, but don't know if its legit)
    Marcel
  • Malone is the best from your list IMO. My naming style seems so far off from yours but I will try to help:

    Maynard
    Merlin
    Morrison
    Murdock
    Myron
    Martin

  • Marshall- sorry. I was typing on my cell so it must have autocorrected. I felt like I was repeating myself after all the suggestions.
