Pregnant after a Loss

Approx. 6wks pregnant, only sac &yolk

I'm new, never posted in any online forum before. Had a second date scan. First time was est. to be 5.2weeks scan showed nothing but thickened lining. Results suggested I was earlier than est. so guessing I was actually 4.3 went for a second date scan two weeks later at 6.2 (est. from first date scan). Saw a gestational sac and yolk sac.

My question: has anyone experienced this? What was the outcome?

Cheers for any replies I may receive.

  • Try to stay positive. Early u/s can be off as much as +\_ 7 days. You had progress so that is something. Have you had your hcg checked and if so is it doubling? Are they planning on doing another scan?

No she didn't do my Lvls.. Seeing dr tomorrow I'm going to request hcg Lvls.

Yeah I didn't have scans that early with my first two boys. Only at 13 and 22 weeks. I think she's just checking to find out how far I was. And when there was nothing the first time she wanted to rule out eptopic....

Will find out next step tomorrow. I had very low vitamin d levels which she said that was what could have possibly caused the miscarriage last time. So I think she just wants to monitor the progress. Make sure it is progressing. Which is why I thought she would have done hcg levels. She'll probably give me a pathology referral tomorrow.

I'm wishing you the best of luck. I'm surprised that they would have you come in for early scans without drawing hcg levels. Unless there's more to your history that you didn't get into I'm also unsure as to why she'd give you a pathology referral. I'm hoping there's more to the story because none of this sounds right to me. I did have an experience where I was measuring behind and only yolk sac & fetal pole were visible. It did not end well for me but that's not to say your outcome will be the same. I'm sorry you're going though this. It's not easy. ((Hugs))
  • I think the progress is a great thing. I did have an ultrasound at my RE's office with this pregnancy at 6.5 weeks and I remember the ultrasound tech telling me that we might just see a sac and yolk and nothing else yet and that it would be fine. I did end up seeing a heartbeat that day at 6 weeks and 3 days. I did have a medicated Clomid cycle with a trigger shot though that was monitored so I know exactly when I ovulated etc. I know it's hard but I would ask to go back in a week and see how things are progressing. My RE office always does HCG levels before an ultrasound too. Hugs to you. Thinking positive thoughts.
  • Wishing you the best on this!!! I know it can be scary, but take it one day at a time. ((hugs))

    ALL WELCOME!

  • I agree with PP about it being early. I was told that at 6 weeks not seeing a fetal pole or heart beat was normal. I think progress is a good thing!

  • Mine was exactly the same at 6 weeks and my doc even thought I might be having another m/c. You may not be as far as you or the doc think. That was my case I somehow ovulated super duper late like 11 days late. I always run a log cycle like 33-35 days. Also you may have implanted late. Implantation can take 2-6 days. Or even a combo of late implanting and late ovulation, you don't really know. Also early ultrasounds are +/- 6 days in accuracy so this early there are lots of factors. Is your HCG doubling properly? Every 48-72 hours it should double.
