~*~*~* Weekly IVF/TTTC/2IF/Infertility grads check-in 10/14 *~*~*~

This check-in is meant for women who had a lot more trouble than most getting pregnant. You don't have to have done IVF to be part of the group, but we do want this limited to those who were diagnosed as infertile by an RE and were using some kind of medical assistance to get pregnant.

What's new with everyone this week? Symptoms to report? Scans? (There were a lot of NT scans on the books last week!) Appointments? Tell us everything!

QOTW: Since this is my last time posting this check-in, I thought I'd get a good start going for @Grailseeker14 who will take it over next. So, this QOTW is: What are some topics and questions you would like to see this group discuss? Ideas for QOTW that you think might be useful? What's on your mind?

  • Update: I had my NT scan yesterday -- babies were measuring 13w and 13w1d and they both looked good and the NT measurements were normal. Unfortunately I still have the SCH it seems (after being told a couple of weeks ago it was no longer measurable) but it is smaller than it was and I haven't bled since week 7, so fingers crossed it reabsorbs completely and gives me no more trouble. I also found out I have placenta previa, but I assume it is partial because the doctor seemed pretty unconcerned by it and seems very optimistic it will move away from the cervix with time. He seemed to think it's two girls, but it is obviously really early to tell with any certainty by u/s, so time will tell! I stopped PIO last week (my sore butt is so happy!) and I am now tapering from Prednisone. I have a MFM appointment and a routine scan next week.

QOTW: Along the lines of YarnyMommy, how public have you been with your IF struggles? Does how your LO was conceived come up in conversations about your pregnancy? Do you feel more like a *normal* pregnant woman as the pregnancy progresses, or do you feel different or even like an impostor?

@pbige Thank you so much for all of your hard work getting this check in off the ground and maintaining it! You've done a great job.

@yarnymommy‌ I'm glad your results came back good, and congrats on your girls!

Not too much going on for me at the moment. Calling today to get NT scan scheduled for this week. My morning sickness has somewhat subsided (yay!) and I've noticed a little more of an appetite overall, so I'm hoping that means I'll be eating better now!

We still haven't really announced yet, I still need to tell work. I'm nervous to tell my principal because I'm due at the end of the school year time and I'm worried that it will look bad if I don't come back for finals. I want to tell work before I tell extended family just in case it gets out. So, hopefully I will tell at the end of the week. I think part of me is afraid to tell people I'm not as close with before having another appointment in case something is wrong; but I'm starting to get some looks like I'm maybe showing a little too! Ahh! So much to think about! Wish me luck!

QOTW: I would love to know if anyone has any names picked out yet? We have had some favorites since before TTC and during Tttc too. Also, maybe if any PCOS ladies have heard about breastfeeding difficulties and/ or if they have any ideas from their doctor to help?

  • @yarnymommy‌ congrats on 2 healthy baby girls! How exciting!

@blueberries8‌ I hope the SCH goes away soon. :/ I'm glad everything looks good so far.

@catlover790‌ glad the MS is gone!! Hopefully your work is understanding.

@ baby_blessings the space between appointments makes me nervous too. Hopefully it will get easier as we progress. :/

@jlb902‌ congrats on announcing and a god NT scan!

Nothing new here. Just an expanding belly. :) hopefully that is a good sign that baby is thriving. The time between appointments is killer. Next appointment is 10/27 and it is a big one snide we plan to share the news with our families after. FX baby is healthy!

Good ideas on QOTW submitted so far. Would it be too much to update the intro with the sexes as we find them out? No worries if it is too hard. I just find it so interesting that I think the IVF board has all girls so far! :)
  • @baby_blessings‌ Yay for being 14+! I agree, the RE spoiled me with lots of ultrasounds! GL at your next appointment!

@jlb902‌ I'm glad you got good results! Hope you have a fun elective ultrasound!

@keifekm‌ Good luck at your next appointment!

@GrailSeeker14‌ Sorry about the headaches and insomnia, that's no fun! GL at your next appointment too! Also, I like the holiday GTKY questions ideas!

  • And 9 more days until we see the OB next! This wait between appointments like a normal pregnant lady is torture after the frequent visits at the RE!

This! Exactly this!  Nothing new to report. Just waiting and wondering.  Worse still is that I know the next OB appt will be my first without an u/s. Ugh! Anyway, 15 weeks yesterday. I can't wait until I can feel her to have some sense of relief and confirmation that things are going well.  I've debated getting a Doppler, but I know I would drive myself crazy. Aside from that, daily headaches and insomnia (or at least not being able to sleep because my stomach is growling because I'm hungry!)

QOTW: I like the suggestions so far.  I'm having trouble focusing today, so I don't have much  to add.  I'll edit later if something comes to mind.

  • Thanks @pblge‌ for doing the board for first Trimester. This is my favorite part of TB. :)

Thanks @GrailSeeker14‌ for taking it on! Also, glad to hear the dopplers are giving you peace of mind.

@yarnymommy‌ Congrats on the baby girls! I cannot believe that it's all girls here so far!

@pblge‌ Thanks for getting this weekly post started, and thanks to @GrailSeeker14‌ for taking over! I so look forward to everyone's updates each week, especially now that we are all reaching second trimester.

We got the blood work results from the NT scan and our chances of downs and T18 are 1 in greater than 10,000! I figure it doesn't get much better than that.

I'm dealing with almost daily headaches now, but I finally have some energy again. My bloat doesn't go down completely by morning, so I think maybe I'm officially showing (a little). Starting to have some hip pain during the night, so my inlaws bought me a Snoogle for my birthday - it's the most amazing invention ever. I'm pretty sure it's life changing.

And to AW myself for one more minute, I turn 30 this week! I'd be having a hard time with this milestone birthday if IVF hadn't worked, but now I feel like I've accomplished what I wanted to by this age, so I'm feeling good about it.

Some questions I'd like to see asked are similar to what others have mentioned. I'm curious about how other people are coping in the post-IF (not sure I can really call it that, I'll always struggle with IF) world. I for one can't seem to announce without throwing in that we got pregnant through IVF. I also like the holiday themed questions with favorite traditions and the like.

  • catlover790 -- try not to stress too much about work.  They should be use to teachers taking leave??  My principal was very happy for my, and my HR was great at explaining how everything worked.  They actually told me it didn't make sense for me to come back for finals!  It wouldn't change my pay that much, so I decided it wasn't worth it.

jlb902 -- glad to hear all is well!!  DH and I decided for an elective u/s too!!  We are going in less than 3 weeks -- we were told that after 16 weeks they have a 100% accuracy rate and the parts will definitely be there.

As for me, I had an appt. with my OB on Monday and HB was strong!  I found it weird that my office doesn't do the anatomy scan?  I have to go to the hospital.  Anyone else?  So my next appt. with my OB is at 17 1/2 weeks, and we'll have our AS around 20 weeks.  20 weeks puts us right at Thanksgiving, and we had our hearts set on knowing by then, so we decided to cave and go for an elective u/s.  We will go have 16 1/2 weeks and are having a reveal party the week after!!  I wasn't at all planning to do it, but friends and family practically begged, so we are!

  • @yarnymommy - Congrats on team pink x2!!! Very exciting!

@blueberries8 - Sheesh, first a SCH and now placenta previa! Hope it's only partial and that it moves!

@catlover790 - Good luck telling your principal!

@baby_blessings - Sorry you're so uncomfortable. :( Hopefully it's just a brief phase and you'll have some relief, as opposed to feeling this way from here on out.

@jlb902 - Glad everything looks good! Hope finding out the sex is fun. :)

@keifekm - Good idea about noting team pink/blue/green! I'll leave that one to @Grailseeker14 to decide, though. It IS weird that it's all girls so far!

@Grailseeker14 - Thanks for taking over, and I hope your public reveal goes great!

@Seachele98 - I will say I love my Doppler. I can see how it would be trouble, but it's been sooooo helpful to me, particularly with my history. Hope the headaches go away!

@Haley612 - Welcome to the group! Congratulations on your girl!

@acrotzer - Glad all is going well for you! I do sometimes wish I'd kept a good journal--I'm jealous of yours!

@KellyA724 - Wow, those are great NT results! Sorry about the headaches and the hip pain. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!!

@CaterinaC - Hope the nausea stays away! Come back and let us know if it's a boy or girl!

@jzay10 - Oooh, elective u/s! Now there's an idea! It's cool that your family is so excited for you! I do think a lot of clinics don't maintain their own tools for these ultrasounds. I saw that a lot when I was shopping around for our new OB.

AFM, I had my follow up to the NT scan today and everything looked good. The trouble is that I told my mom not to share the news with anyone until now, but I still don't feel ready. I'm realizing, though, that I may simply not be able to keep a lid on this very long for a few reasons out of my control. I wish I could be one of those women who kept the lid on it until after the A/S, but mine's still a month out, so that's not going to work. I'm telling my boss tomorrow morning, and she's going to have to do some administrative things for next semester that will raise a lot of questions.

QOTW: I'm loving the topic others mentioned of dealing with IF now, especially as I can't figure out if or how much I want to share as we go public with this. I'd also add relationship/marriage issues to the list, as well as exercising and registry/shopping stuff.

  • @acrotzer Congrats on officially showing and for making it FB official!
KellyA724 I'm glad you got great news from your NT scan! I have started to get headaches too :-(. Hope you have a wonderful birthday!
CaterinaC Sorry your results aren't back yet; hope they come in soon!
@jszy10 Yay for a great heartbeat! I am having a NT scan done next week and they have to send me somewhere else for it too. I think it might be normal for some offices to have the scans done at other places? I think the elective ultrasound and party sounds so fun!

Thanks for the reassurance about my work too. Most of the teachers at my school are women, so I know they deal with this a lot. I hope they tell me not to bother coming back for finals; that would make it so much easier on me! I think part of me is just worried that once I tell work and we announce to all our family that if something goes wrong so many people will know. Part of my irrational PAIF brain; like it's too good to be true. Irrational I know!

@pblge Glad your NT follow-up looked great! I understand not wanting to share until later; I would like to wait until 16 weeks or more, but I'm starting to show a little and am getting "looks" at work. I hope everything goes well with your announcements though!

  • Hi ladies, so good to hear everyone updates. I'm looking forward moving into the 2nd tri with you all.
@pblge‌ thank you so much keeping is all connected.
@GrailSeeker14‌ thank you for taking over, as we go through our 2nd tri.
My week has been up and down, I have started to feel so much better. Minimal sickness, and my energy has returned. Well until 8pm when I crash out. As I moved into 14 weeks, I started to feel comfortable. Then in the early hours of Tuesday morning I went to the bathroom and had a gush of blood. Of course I completely freaked out. After multiple miscarriages, I thought this was happening again. I already had an app booked for my OB by the time I reached my clinic the bleeding had stopped. The doctor did a U/S and there was our little boy, kicking and wiggling around. He brought me to tear. The doctor checked everything, she couldn't find a reason for the bleed. She decided to see me every 2 weeks from here on out. For peace of mind more than anything. So today I'm on bed rest.
Things I would love to know from our little group. What are we expecting boy/girl? Who is team green?
Is anyone planing on going through fertility treatment again?
    Anyone thinking about birthing plans?
I hope everyone has a fantastic week.
  • catlover790 -- I can TOTALLY relate to that fear of everyone knowing and something happening.  I went to my appt. this week and told DH to expect a call to come pick me up if they can't find the HB.  It's like we always expect the worst.  I finally now feel that I can relax and enjoy my pregnancy...but it sure too awhile to get here.

I hope all goes well at work ad they don't want you back before next year!  Ultimately it is your decision, and if you are honest up front about what you want/plan to do, then I'm sure they'll go with it.  When I told my principal, he asked me if I thought about my plan, and I told him I didn't plan to come back until September and he was perfectly fine with it!  Our district allows for us to take the rest of the school year plus a whole additional year (unpaid of course) without losing our position, and a lot of women take advantage of that, so he was probably happy I didn't say longer!

  • @jszy10‌ My OB practice also does scans at the hospital. We had to go there for the NT scan at 12 weeks and then we're going back to the hospital for 2 anatomy scans (one at 16 weeks and one at 20).

@catlover790‌ I've also been paranoid about telling people. We finally did in the last couple of weeks, and every time I feel any cramping or when I had spotting last week I immediately think "now we're going to have to untell the news to all these people." Not sure when/if I will stop feeling that way.

I'm also having frequent headaches. I had no idea that was such a common pregnancy symptom.
  • @snedge -- I'm with you on the headaches girl!!  UGH...I've been trying hard not to take Tylenol unless completely necessary, but sometimes it gets bad!!

  • Hello everyone, I'm so happy to hear all the good news and I'm jealous so many of you get to find out what you're having so soon!
We got our results back from the NT scan and everything is great. So relieved. So we finally posted it on FB too.
Next OB appt is Monday, and we will have our anatomy scan on the 4th. I can't wait, hopefully the baby will cooperate! I still can't believe we're having a baby!
I think all the questions that have been brought up are great. I would be interested to know how your IF support group or forum or whatever you may have participated in while dealing with IF has reacted to your success? And, if you have close friends with IF, how they have reacted.
    Have a great week!
  • Not too much new here either.  I think I officially look pregnant to strangers instead of extra belly fat.  I had the most exercise I've had since beginning this whole experience when I ran through the Atlanta airport to catch my connection, which was the last flight back to my town.  I'm happy to say that I made it.  The lady asked me if I was okay because I was so out of breath.  I'm out of breath after climbing a staircase, let alone the distance and 2-story escalator I ran up.  She changed the sign to closed as soon as I checked in, phew!

I can only eat bread (bagels, muffins, etc.) in the morning now or I either get nauseous or sick.  I came to a revelation yesterday that the timing of this change coincided with changing my prenatal vitamins.  So, I bought new last night that I'll begin today and hopefully will be able to at eat fruit or cereal as well.

QOTW:  I agree that there are great questions already posted.  I'm also interested in whether other people's OB watch IVF pregnancies closer.  Mine does, but I'm fine with that as it give me more reassurance that everything is okay.
  • @jszy10‌ Thank you so much for making me not feel alone in being so paranoid! I know I had it much easier than others dealing with IF, and I know how lucky I am but I think once that IF diagnosis is there it changes how you look at everything, so I appreciate knowing it's not just me!

We too could take a whole extra year so I hope that makes my principal glad I'm coming back in September!

@Haley612‌ I wonder if it's something about IF and pregnancy that has impacted me. I have friends who didn't have trouble ttc who were happy to tell people really early! I'm almost 13w and still would rather not say anything for a few more weeks!

  • Hi All! I was waiting to post, since I had an appointment yesterday. Everything went great, and I even got a bonus ultrasound (last week at my appointment they could not hear the hb using the doppler so I got upset. They told me to come back in a week and they would try again and give a U/S if necessary.... Dr. was running behind but U/S tech was running early so they said 'if you want it, we'll just do it now before your appointment' OF COURSE i want it!). Baby looks awesome, and we even got a few waves and tumbles. I don't know that I'll ever completely lose the fear of a miscarriage, but i'm definitely more optimistic than ever!

As for future posts, as PP said, would love to see some questions re: IF life. I also love the getting to know you and just for fun type questions.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend
