Aaron & Erin

I didn't want to hijack another thread. @Joy2611‌ mentioned Aaron and Erin are pronounced differently. How? I grew up in Kansas, everyone pronounces them the same around here.

  • My name is Erin and I have had so many people over the years spell it Aaron when I tell them my name. With they being said, I'm in Chicago and they are pronounced the same.

they're the same to me. i just sat here and said them both aloud and really tried to make them different, and i guess i could by making the second syllable of erin a little harsher... but i had to really try.

I live in NYC. We would pronounce Aaron AH-ren (like a short A) and we would pronounce Erin EH -ren (short e).

Ditto this except I'm from the Boston area.

  • Lol I'm from Ireland & I pronounce them differently. AIR-on & ER-in as in ERror if that makes sense?
  • So Cal here and I pronounce them differently. It's slight, but it's the -ON (-uhn) versus the -IN.

Side note, I was almost an Erin, but my dad (rightly) thought it was too close to my cousin Darren's name.
  • Where I'm from it's "ear-in" for Erin and "air-in" for Aaron.
  • Western Canada, I say them the same.

  • I'm from va and this is how I say them:

    Erin: Ayer-IN
    Aaron: air-on

    Very very subtle difference.

I'm Irish too. I pronounce Erin the same but Aaron I say it as Arr-on. (Like in arrow)

Another Northeast/Boston person... they sound different to me!

I live in AZ and they sound exactly the same to me. My mother is from NJ and they sound completely different when she says them. More emphasis on the double A sound.

  • Erin has slightly more of a short i sound at the end than Aaron. It's a very subtle difference
  • From WNY - I was thinking that I would pronounce them the same, but now I realize that I would probably say them the way @dr.loretta described.

  • I'm from the midwest, and if I try, I can make them sound different but in normal speech, I pronounce them exactly the same. In Hebrew, you pronounce Aaron as AH-ron with an elongated 'o'.

  • I pronounce them the same as well. (Midwest)

I pronounce them the same, but if I really tried harder with pronunciation I would pronounce Aaron as Air-uhn and Erin as Air-in.
This. If I say them fast, I pronounce them the same. If I really think about it, it's Air-uhn/Air-in.
  • From the south and we pronounce them both the same as Air-in.

  • In Washington they sound the same.
  • I'm an Erin originally from the northeast and I pronounce them differently.  My whole family calls me Eh-rin but most people pronounce it Air-in.  I actually tend to say "Air-in" when introducing myself to people, and when on the phone, people always think I'm saying "Anne".
  • I thought they were the same. I always thought the only difference is that Aaron is the spelling for a boy and Erin the girl's spelling.

  • Ontario Canada we pronounce them the same, but Aaron is primarily male and Erin is female

  • I'm from California and have always heard it pronounced the same way.

  • Eh-rin and Ah-rin. Very different in MA.
  • Texas. Same to me.

  • Very different here (in Wales, but also in most of the UK)
    Erin would be - Eh-rin
and Aaron woud be A-ron but here more A-run
