Hemorrhagic Corpus Luteum Cyst

Anyone else have one of these? The US tech just happened to mention it in passing last week at my first US. I never heard anything else (haven't had my first OB appointment yet) so I requested the ultrasound report from the hospital which does show a large hemorrhagic corpus luteum cyst on my right ovary. From what I have looked up online, it doesn't seem to be too harmful but I am just wondering I'd anyone has personal experience with this.

Side Note: I had an US in May for gyn. reasons and it was not present then.

Re: Hemorrhagic Corpus Luteum Cyst

  • Or any other type of ovarian cyst during pregnancy?

I would have never known it was there until today, when I started having sharp pains on that side. My OB ordered another US for Tuesday to "check it out" but I guess I am unclear as to what they would be looking for? If its bigger, smaller, ruptured, etc.. I would guess.

  • The cyst is from where you ovulated for this pregnancy. It should reabsorb on it's own.

  • Sometimes if big enough they can twist ovary or rupture, but usually are just watched and go away on their own.

  • I had some discomfort on my right side and mentioned it to my OB during my initial visit. Via US she confirmed I had a cyst on my right ovary, but did not seem too concerned. At my 7 week US, I inquired about the cyst again and she explained as @lizrn1975 mentioned, that I would be monitored, but should resolve itself. I still feel pain at times if I lay on my right side and try to get up from the bed on my right side.
  • I have one too. I keep seeing people mention that theirs were discovered at 5-9 weeks but mine was causing brutal pain at 13 weeks and is still sensitive at almost 17 weeks. No follow up or anything either but the pain is still there. I have been super seditarty but I wish I could find info from anyone who has had this at this stage.
