  • I was fine aside from a sore arm for a few days.  Minor side effects may happen though, some people feel nauseated or whatever.... they usually list the possible minor side effects on the form you sign.  Sorry :(  It sucks, but hopefully it passes soon.

Probably better than getting the flu while pregnant though.

  • Sorry you are not feeling well. I have never had this happen to me. Other than arm soreness for a day or two I feel just fine after my flu shot.

  • Well its my first time...so maybe I am just dealing differently. I feel like I do when I get sick...sinus pressure sort of sick head feeling. I hope that maybe it will subside.

But no guts, no glory...got to keep the lil one safe and myself.

    thx everyone!

  • Both my husband and I had similar reactions.  Like your starting to come down with the flu, chills, headache etc.  It lasted fewer than 24 hours for us.

  • I had a sore spot on my arm for about 4 days, felt like a bruise.   I also came down with a fun trio of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that lasted about 12 hours.  My DH got his shot and ... nothing.  He felt fine the whole time.

  • I always get a sore throat, bad headache and overall crappy feeling and it usually last 3 days. But for me it's way better than getting the actual Flu.
  • I've never had that happen but my doctor said that sometimes when the immune system is learning to fight the inactivated virus some people get symptoms like they are actually sick (your body activates the same mechanisms it would use if it were live virus, so might get light fever, runny nose, headache, a little nausea) and people confuse this not very common response with the actual flu. It's not the flu, though, there is no live virus in the shot, and it should pass quickly (day or so).
  • Oh bummer. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. I've decided that I'm going the flu shot for the first time ever this year. I really hope I don't get sick from it! At least it's better than getting the actual flu. Hope you feel better soon!!

  • I agree with PP, some people are just a lot more sensitive to the immune response (this can be especially true with your first time getting it and may not be as bad in subsequent years!) but since the injection only contains inactivated virus, you can rest assured that you and baby are safe :) I hope you feel better!
  • I haven't had a flu shot in over 5 years so when I got it last week I felt like death for 2 days n then I was fine.. I think it's like something ur body gets used to over the years...DH needs to get it every year, he's in the military, n he says he used to feel like that n now he doesn't... u Should feel fine in a day.... if u don't I'd consult ur dr...
  • I get the flu shot every year and have never had any negative side effects, but I know some people do. However, I still think it's better than getting the flu.
  • I'm 26weeks. I'm kind of nerves to even get the flu shot, because I've never had one. Should I get one now or wait til I'm a little further along ????

I'd suggest now, better to feel a little under the weather for 2 days now than when ur 8mo n feeling uncomfortable on top of sick... but that's my opinion... that's y I got it last week, to get that feeling over with... gl
  • My plan was to get it next week, and now my husband is showing symptoms of the flu :( Of course, I'm worried, but have an appointment today so will definitely talk with my doctor.

  • FWIW, I've only gotten the Flu Shot four years ago during my pregnancy with DD and this year - and in neither year did I have any side effects. In fact, last time, I don't even recall my arm being sore. This year it was - so just because someone has these side effects that may or may not even have anything to do with the vaccine, doesn't mean you will as well.

Get it now. It's already going around and you should be protected asap.
  • I got my first shot in a long time yesterday and started to feel something soon after.  I convinced myself it was in my head and tried to ignore it.  I felt much better once I got home.  Being at work always makes me feel ill :)

I hope you feel better soon!

  • My husband always gets a cold a few days after his flu vax(he gets the mist so I'm assuming it irritates his nose). I've felt yucky after the dtap booster before, but like others said, mostly just a sore arm.

Thus the reason I refuse to ever get one again. The one time I got a flu shot, I got the flu a couple weeks later (and yes it was the flu according to my Dr). I'm usually pretty healthy and don't get sick often, but "everyone else was doing it" so I got mine too.
