Because I love Halloween...
Do you answer the door for trick-or-treaters? If so, how many do you get and how much do you estimate you spend on candy each year?

Re: GTKY: Trick or Treaters
I grew up in the country where it was too far to walk and we never had any trick or treaters, so getting them was one of things I looked forward to most when we got married and moved to the city. We hardly got any at our old "starter" house though (it was in a lower-income neighborhood), but since we moved to the suburbs, I'd say we get about 50-75 kids a year. I'm paranoid about running out of candy, so we always have leftovers (not that I'm complaining). I'd say we spend about $50-60 on candy.

We usually get quite a few. my best friend usually hands candy out with me but she recently moved to a different town. Last year we cooked dinner and passed out probably 6 bags of candy. I may just pass out candy by myself this year, I'm not sure. DH will be working and not home.
I have been invited to a Halloween party at a friends house but seeing how they block off the streets in her neighborhood, my 39 week pregnant butt will not be going because I would have to park outside the subdivision and walk to her house. No.

Two years ago we had a TON of trick or treaters and ran out of candy about halfway through the evening. I hated having to turn off the porch light and be the "grumpy" neighbor!
Last year I really stocked up and we only got about 20!
I really expect more this year because a lot of people with kids have moved into the neighborhood. I always buy stuff we like just in case we get stuck with it.
Over the summer we moved and the new neighborhood has tons of kids--there are often kids out throwing a baseball in the street--so we're expecting a lot. I'll probably spend about $40. And I'm planning to wear my "little pumpkin" pregnancy shirt
I am obsessed with 100 Grands so have two bags of them downstairs for me, and my husband found them yesterday and said "I knew I could count on you to make sure we're all set with Halloween candy." Umm...that's not for Halloween...that's because I'm pregnant.
We live in a HUGE kid friendly neighborhood. I spend about $15-$20 on candy and usually run out.
my happy boy
We get the big candy bars from SAMs club. Most kids know to only take one, but some of the younger ones still want their handful....lol. The really cute ones get away with it too!
DH normally buys the candy so I am not sure what he spends...probably around 60-80 $.
I love seeing all the kids dressed up.

But we've lived in an apartment building in the city for the past five years and never get any. There are some kids who live in the building, which makes me wonder where they go on Halloween....
However, it seems like there are fewer kids in the neighborhood each year, so we don't get many trick or treaters... but I always encourage friends & family to bring their Littles over!
Trick or treating is basically the reason I am having a kid.
Now I live in the middle of nowhere, 1/2 a mile from the closest house. We've never had trick or treaters here, but I always buy a bag of candy just in case someone shows up.
I spend about $40 (two 150 packs) but we usually have 60 ish kids.
I'll give you candy in direct proportion to how adorable you are! Under 10? You're cute - here's a handful. Over 15? Get a job and buy your own darn candy! Under 5 and can barely walk? Please let me kidnap you and give you ALL the candy.
I grew up living at the top of a hill, so we never got trick or treaters. I LOVE handing out candy now because I missed out for so long on the epic cuteness
Also, if I thought we had Kids trying to t.o.t. I'd leave a bowl of candy out, but I seriously doubt we do. So the bowl of candy stays inside to eat when I get home from SIL
For some reason we get TONS of kids trick or treating in our neighborhood. Way more than live here. I think they come over from the apartment complex nearby. There's usually a small line of cars that move slowly down the main drag as their kids go house to house. Always makes me nervous having so many extra vehicles while small kids are out in the dark. The house at the very front of our neighborhood does a cool haunted tunnel thing that I think attracts more people to the neighborhood too.
DH refuses to hand out candy, but I usually sit on the porch with a big bowl after our kids are done trick or treating. I love seeing kids in their costumes. The younger the better.
I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I really really hate it when the teens come out in their street clothes with a plastic bag. Thankfully we have a large number of very young kids in the area, so by the time the teens come out I'm usually very low or out of candy. I usually only buy 1 bag, but I'm also not there during peak trick or treater time because I take the kids out.

Trick or treating is probably among the top five things I'm looking forward to as a parent of a young child.
FFFC: I think high schoolers should go trick or treating! They are still kids!
Plus it pairs great with dark choc Kit Kats.
P.S. I just started visiting the BMB's a month or so ago and you ladies crack me up! Also very thankful for lots of insight every one has contributed since I'm a FTM.
