I think it's perfectly ok to spend money on silly things, if you can afford it. If you enjoy your giant Christmas decorations, sparkly nail polish, glow in the dark undies, whatever, and it doesn't effect your feeding your child, paying your mortgage, and you're not going into credit card debt to get it, I vote go for it! The extras are nice sometimes.

Can we do regular UOs here? I have one, and I know I won't remember it tomorrow.
I hate Black Friday shopping. It gives me the icks. I don't like how it's making two holidays so commercial and consumerized. Is that a word? It should be
@codypup well, gurl, your water was turned off because of "financial irresponsibility"*
*or because your water authority is nucking futs.
I couldn't figure out why @Codypup said she would flip if my UO was about her. It most definitely is not. I don't think Mr. and Mrs. Pup were being irresponsible, mistakes happen.

I agree with this. Part of it has to do with my UO though. I also love the bump 'n dumper known as @MissDemeanor .
OK, I think
it is absolutely stupid to buy frivolous things by charging them because you
don't have the cash to pay outright for them. If you don't have the cash then
don't buy the items or wait until you do. So many people end up putting
themselves in crazy amounts of debt because of these shopping practices. I don’t
understand how people do this so willingly.
It also
bothers me when people don't have money to pay bills but then go spend money on hobbies or fleeting desires. For example, my SIL “doesn’t have the
money” to pay her bills but never misses her mani/pedi appointments, has
Starbucks daily, and regularly goes out to eat when she could eat at home.
People post these types of things around here then others cheer on and
encourage their irresponsibility which is why I’m calling my feelings a UO.
I will say this UO doesn't actually stem from the Amazon shopping talk, PBK, or even those merry six foot plastic men.
I get that
most of us are still internet strangers and we try to be a positive community
but sometimes I wish that we could just tell people that their behavior is
destructive/the source of their problems.
@iwubrory I totally agree. It's one thing to charge necessities when you're in a pinch, but something altogether different when you're charging something you don't need and can't afford.
I'm glad btw we can still be friends. Also, I had a lot of fun in this thread.

Thanks for revealing your issue! I was afraid it was that my going RVing with bf was stupid. And I was like, silly @iwubrory, thats a popular opinion.
PS We paid for our trailer in cash, FWIW.
I hved struggled with stupid debt in the past. It was half from shopping my feelings (instead of eating them), and half trying to keep up with the cool kids. I hate that I'm still paying for my college stupidity.
It's hard on here, because our financial positions are all so different. So you can cheer on one person spending, say $200 on a bag they really don't need, but another person can't actually afford the glow in the dark underwear everyone would be buying, if sadly I hadn't made them up.
I think as part of the sisterhood of the traveling interwebz, we should be able to say something to one another. During Thrifty June if one of us was talking about spending money we'd call the other out, with no hurt feels. It seems rude to do that now. But it's better than an I told you so later. Right?
@greenbunny79 DH and I also pay for almost everything with our credit card, we have the cash but we get cash back from all of our purchases. It's free money. The difference between us and many people is we pay off the entire balance every month.

we do the same. Although it's scary in a way, to see how much we spend. We're about to go back to super tight budget while travelling. No one NEEDS Starbucks, right! I may go through withdrawal though
I agree, @iwubrory . My SIL & BIL are like this. Rarely eat at home, but are always 'broke'. Since DD, we have buckled down quite a bit, and I could probably count on 2 hands the number of times we have eaten out since Feb. It's strange how priorities are different.

Between MH and I, we have 3 cards, but use them really infrequently. Mainly for online purchases (which we don't do much of), and recurrent subscriptions. I have actually brought my credit score up roughly 200 points in the last 5 years or so (since leaving my XH)

I just Googled mannequin nutcracker and I legit LOL'd. @elf828 this would make quite a conversation piece at your upcoming work event! A centerpiece perhaps?
I think debt can be fine. I am not one to throw stones. People who live in glass houses (or RVs) shouldn't throw brinks. We paid cash for our trailer, and have rented out our house while we're away, but anything we spend during our trip will be line of credit. No apologies.
@golfergirl08 You can gather a ton or nothing depending on the person. The things I mentioned definitely happen around here. Financial responsibility is crazy important to me. I know a lot of people IRL who are severely lacking in this department and regularly witness the consequences they face as a result. so I might pick up on instances of irresponsibility more than the average person.
1. I think debt due to school/professional reasons is one thing, especially if you have a plan to pay it off and get ahead.
2. There are always people (here and IRL) who talk about not having enough money and then talk about spending on whatever. Of course I don't know a thing about anyone's financial situation (here or IRL), but I can make educated guesses based on conversations. I know IRL I have several friends who can never afford anything or who rely on their parents to pay their bills but are the first ones to be out all night, buying expensive clothes, etc.
3. Debt due to RV There Yet is also a special case. Because entertainment.
Was it my RHPS makeup? Probably. But I didn't even get to get it since they only sell it online and it's sold out online
I do agree it's a PO though. I had a lot of debt at one point in time and I paid all of it by myself. I went from living pay check to pay check to super strict on myself and got the debt paid in a summer, I was super proud of myself. And now, I have cash to pay for things but there's a few credit cards that I prefer to use instead. As far as what we know about those IRL is hard to tell from the way we talk on here. I say "I'm broke" all the time because I'm not making the kind of money i once was. I still make good money, enough to pay my bills and put some away. But at one point I was making a lot more. So in my head, I'm broke.
Anywho. I still loved the anticipation of today's talks. It made for some good bumping ;;)
Re: Speshul Wednesday UO
Shit is getting serious.

Seriously, if I tell you guys what it is then the fun will end. Plus y'all might hate me. :-SS
@elf828 I also want PBK stockings. My H knows how much they are but couldn't deny how awesome they are so he's on board whenever I decide to get them.
Yes, this was all about Vera Bradley. Do you all hate me?
I'll be posting my UO soon.. we had a minimum day today for conferences but I have breaks between them..
It's over for us. Nice knowin ya.
GBCB.
This and this.
