type of car seat?

edited October 2014 in June 2014 Moms
This poll brought to you by the lady at my gym's daycare who asked of Charlie was big enough for his convertible car seat yet, because she wanted me to bring it in for her in case he fell asleep. Because my 17 pounder doesn't fit in a 5-65 pound car seat...yup. So then I got curious.

  • We switched in part because heavy and on part because he hated it and would scream and arch his back every time we had to go in the car. He's much happier in the convertible.

  • Still in a bucket but like PPs said, it's getting heavy!! We inherited one convertible but I'm looking at the Graco 4ever for our second since it's good for 10 years!

  • Bucket seat although it is very heavy and very awkward to try to take LO out of the car seat (while attached to the base) without twisting my arms.  I do like the bucket seat because it inclines further down and LO is very comfortable cuz she can snuggle in there.  I think there are some convertible car seats out there that can recline and will definitely get those when the time comes.
  • Still in the bucket, and while it's getting heavy, I'm not ready to ditch it yet.  Eventually I'll just take him out and leave the car seat in the base.  Plan on buying a convertible around 1 year old.

  • We are in the infant bucket still. It's bulky and heavy and I hate it more than anything. I'm not ready to ditch it yet because it is convenient and once we itch it we need a new stroller. I am more tempted to pull him out instead of toting around lately. It also doesn't fit well in DH's car.

I think we will end up with a convertible around 6-9 months.

  • Once ds hit 20 lbs, we ditched the infant car seat because it was so heavy and awkward with him in it, and he was so close to the 22 lb weight limit anyways. We're on to the convertible up to 50 lbs now and love it so far.

  • Bucket seats, we just picked out our convertibles.
I'm starting to experiment with leaving the buckets attached to the bases in the car and wearing one/carrying one to and from the house because hauling two seats + two babies in and up the stairs is getting a little cumbersome. Not ready to ditch them completely though because I love our frame stroller.

  • Those of you with convertibles... What brand and why did you choose it?

  • We started with evenflo symphony 65 with C. When one of our two bit the dust in a car accident, we got a diono radian r100. I wish both were diono. Super slim profile, easy to install and take out, easy to clean.

  • My first baby went into a convertible when he was about 6 months. He was too big. I couldn't get him buckled in anymore. My second baby was about 10 months when I switched her. At about 8 months I think I started carrying her in and out and left the car seat in the car. For now I am not ready to switch it. It is heavy and annoying but so much easier having them in it then out and carrying them in the store etc and she can't sit up yet in a cart.
  • Bucket seat here.

  • Still in the bucket seat now, and he HATES getting into that thing. I will probably take out the infant insert soon and see if that helps. He's apparently a munchkin so lengthwise he should be in there awhile. We have the convertible all ready too- Britax Marathon https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=23840896&cp=&parentPage=search this one- but may have to get another so there is one in my and Dh's car eventually. I have a two seater so switching the seat out will suck.

  • We went back and forth between Nextfits and the Radians, decided on Radians so that I can still sit in the back if I want.

  • We have the Britax b-safe infant seat right now. It says the height and weight limits are 32" or 30lbs but I can't imagine how she could possibly fit in there at that height and weight?! At 16ish lbs (not sure how many inches... she was 24" at her last appt and has definitely grown since then) she already seems snug in there and we have to extend the straps all the way. I am guessing we'll start looking at a convertible sometime after Christmas.
