not-good eaters

Does anyone else have a baby who isn't that great of an eater?  I feel like DD used to eat so much better but now she's gotten a bit picky.  I've started giving her those pouches with pureed veggies and fruit here and there.  I think she gets them at daycare because the first time someone gave it to her, she knew what to do with it.  Anyway, she seems to enjoy "sipping" on those so I'll give it to her to make sure she at least gets some fruit or vegetables.  I'm worried about her not eating more balanced meals.  At daycare she eats well because all the other kids are eating.  Any suggestions or recipes that your baby seems to enjoy and might help?

  • @snowboarderbritt Maybe I should try giving her fewer bottles then?  I thought she'd naturally want less milk and more solids, but it doesnt seem to be going that way.

I know me too. I think it is a process that will take a little while. Like right now if I don't feed her BM 4 times a day she wakes up in the middle of the night to eat. But if I just stayed consistent with it, then I'm guessing she would make up for it with solids.

He also said they should be getting 5 "meals" of solids a day

I'm lucky if my kid gets 2 and she doesnt even seem to eat that much.  After she flings her food she asks for a bottle. I feel a little defeated.

I hear ya. One thing Kenzie loves though is green smoothies. I've started making them every morning for her now. I load it with spinach so she actually gets some veggies in.
good idea.  what else do you put in it?

How many bottles are you giving now?  We are down to 3 a day, but we could easily drop the middle one.  When she moves up classes in daycare, they don't do bottles anymore, which will drop us to 2 (one at wake up and one before bed).  She should be moving in the next month or so.  I'm thinking of dropping the morning one next.  And eventually I will switch her bedtime bottle to a straw cup, and slowly get rid of that as well.

she gets about 4 I think.  At daycare, she eats better so she takes less.

  • It is much easier for us to do breakfast meals. The rest we still have to offer purees or half and half. He has a hard time eating veggies so we mostly still do purees of those.
  • Milo used to eat EVERYTHING .I mean, everything. We did BLW so he's been on table food since 6 months and he loved it all. At ten months he got an ear infection, started refusing solids, and has been picky since. He doesn't eat much table food anymore, but both my pediatrician and I are OK w/ it and I trust that it will all work out in time.

I recently found that he loves cheddar cheese cubes, so he's been getting a lot of those between meals. We still serve him everything we eat but he  just picks at it and throws it on the floor.

  • @sweettooth87‌ thank you! You described my dd exactly! It makes me feel so much better. I've been feeling really bad about it. The cheese cubes are a good snack idea too.

Babies  are so silly. I'm glad you feel a bit better :). I wouldn't stress - at some point she's not going to be satisfied by a liquid diet and will start to chomp down on more food.

  • right now Emma is a pretty good eater, but some days she refuses things she used to eat. With veggies, I usually have to sneak them in by mixing it with something sweet. Or I mix them with eggs or pastina/orzo. If I mix anything with pasta she loves it.

She does still drink her whole bottle, but after this can of formula I'm going to just try to cut it out cold turkey. She drinks milk out of the sippy cup, so I'm just going to see how this goes. I'm going to increase the amount of solids, right now she eats 3 solids a day but I'm going to start giving her snacks like cheese sticks and edamame to keep her full.
