Tongue tie?

Has anyone had their LOs tongue/lip tie revised? I know my LO has a tongue and lip tie and I'm really nervous about having it revised. I'm scared of him being in terrible pain. Anyone have any advice? If you had it revised was your LO in a lot of pain after?

Both of my little ones had tongue tie. We had then both get them revised. They were easy to sooth afterwards so it didn't seem like they were in very much pain more angry that someone strange was in their face and being held still. Also since having ds's done he eats and latches much better. It was worth it for us because he wasn't gaining very well

Baby A had her frenulum (sp?) clipped at 7 days in pedi office. There was minimal blood and she did not even cry. It helped with latching. My MIL had it too. So maybe it's genetic

Yep, my LO did too and had it fixed. She wasn't crying after the procedure when they brought her back to me. They encouraged BFing immediately after and no problems there either. Her latch and my nipples recovered relatively quickly.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll bite the bullet and get it done. DS has been slow gaining and lately he seems to keep clicking and slipping. I hope the revision helps and he's not in a lot of pain after. I wish we had gotten it done right away but it took a couple opinions before we got a correct diagnosis and my pedi is completely against it. He freaked when I mentioned it.

Had our DD's lip and tongue tie done two weeks ago. H stayed in the room and when I came back she was sad and a little fussy. We immediately nursed and she fell asleep. She was a little fussy the rest of the day but slept great. We gave her Tylenol that day and the next. Recovery was a lot easier than I'd expected. We went to a pediatric dentist and there wasn't any blood, just some swelling.

BF is much better now. She stays latched on and is much more efficient. She is also spitting up a lot less. Yay! Now I'm just trying to build up my supply since I only produce about half of what she needs.

I would get a couple opinions. The pediatrician said he wouldn't fix it since it was so minimal but it's made a big difference and I'm ultimately glad we did.

Our DD got it clipped at 6 days old. She was eating so poorly she got jaundiced. I saw the procedure. A nurse helped hold her down while the doctor used a little metal thing to hold her tongue up. He the used a little scalpel to cut it back a little at a time. She was most upset by being held down and mouth open. There was a tiny amount of blood and she ate right after and was fine. (A bottle cause it took until 3 weeks old to finally help her learn to breastfeed). It was the pediatrician that did it, they are huge breastfeeding advocates at the practice.

My mother and I were both tongue tied as well. She got it cut as a newborn and mine wasn't taken care of until age 4. I started having speech problems and they feared I would have dental problems. Get it done early.

Quinn had a posterior and anterior tongue tie and we had the first done while in Hospital and the other at 4 weeks. She stopped crying as soon as they stopped holding her mouth open so I don't think it's too painful

My lo had her tongue tie clipped the day after she was born and she cried briefly and got to nurse immediately after. We didn't notice her lip tie until later and got it clipped last Friday after she turned 5 weeks. They numbed the area first so she cried mostly from being held down and was fine after. She was cranky a few hours later but infant tylenol and time on the boob helped. The clicking is rare now and my nipples hurt less

Going for an evaluation tomorrow! I am encouraged by all of the improvement in BF others saw. Thanks for sharing your stories.

@stoofewok‌ In talking with several medical professionals before deciding on an ENT to schedule an eval, the most consistent advice I was given was to be cautious of anyone who recommended anesthesia. Not sure if that is helpful at all, but thought I would share.

My son's lip tie didn't affect nursing, so I didn't notice it until his front teeth came in. We got a referral to have the ENT check it because it was down between his front teeth. The appointment got rescheduled when it was booked while I was going to be gone on my honeymoon. Ultimately, DS took a tumble and bumped his face and busted the lip tie back. The ENT said it wasn't a problem and she wouldn't do anything else.

If it helps, I had my own clipped when I was 11. It hurt a little, and bled a tiny bit, but really want a big deal. Like @stoofewok‌ said, I had mine done as a baby and it grew back together. So I had it clipped a second time. Have it taken care of when they're little. I ended up with years of orthodontic work to correct the gap left from the lip tie.

OP, since you're having slow gain and slipping and clicking, you should get it clipped. Definitely get a second opinion.

@stoofewok‌ Add me to the "get a second opinion" crowd for the lip tie if I didn't already say so somewhere else, lol.

DD had hers clipped and it was night and day after. She's now packing on the pounds and only slips or clicks a couple times a day when she gets lazy which I'm pretty sure is normal. She was only in pain a few hours after the revision and was annoyed with the stretches but they are definitely necessary. I did it at every diaper change for a week. Good luck!
