I was scheduled for an induction on Wednesday morning at 8am. I went into L&D to get my cervical ripening gel. I had been contracting for the last week about 10min apart but they didn't hurt and would go away when I went to sleep so when the doc confirmed this, I wasn't surprised. He chose not to put the ripening gel in to prevent my uterus from hyper-stimulating. I was disappointed as I was told the gel could put me into labor naturally. DH and I left the hospital with orders to come back at 8pm for water breaking and/or pitocin or to call if contractions were 3-5 min apart for more than an hour.
DH and I headed to Target to pick up a few extra things for the babies and it started to get hard to walk. I was feeling a little more pain that I had to breath through. With my first (DD), I had really bad pain from the start since I had back labor. I was using that pain threshold as a reference for this labor and this pain was a joke compared, like a light period cramp, so I was ignoring it. We got home and I played with DD for a while then had lunch. I realized that my contractions were coming pretty quick but still weren't hurting that bad so I decided to boil some bottles. Finally, I decided that maybe I should time them. They were 2 min apart!
I let DH know that we might have to go to the hospital early and we started to pack our bags. I also wanted to shower and look nice because I knew there would be a lot of pictures. By the time I was out of the shower, they were 1.5 min apart. I called my OB and let them know but also told them I could walk and talk through them and wasn't feeling too terrible. The nurse told me I could labor at home if I wanted since I wasn't in much pain or go in, it was up to me. I asked when I HAD to go in, when it became absolutely necessary to go in...she told me when my contractions were 3-5 min apart...confusing right? I continued to get things done, like clean the kitchen, until I was finally hurting enough to be uncomfortable, around 4pm. As we were leaving the house, my OB called and asked me to come in right away and didn't know why the nurse had told me to stay home. I let him know we were already on our way.
When we got to L&D, DH filled out paperwork and I chatted with the nurses at the nursing station. I let them know I intended to get an epidural so if they could get orders in for a saline bag to get the process started ASAP I'd love them forever (with DD, it took 2 hours for the nurse to come with the IV, another hour for the IV to drip, and another hour for the anesthesiologist to show up). They laughed and got it right away! I brought a birth plan with me but was nervous to give it to the nurses since I didn't want them to think I was demanding or anything but I am soooo glad I did. I let them know that the list was a best case scenario and I know things could change quickly. The nurse looked it over and everyone spent the rest of the time trying to stick to the plan. I was able to have the lights dim, use electric candles and aromatherapy, I avoided pitocin, used my own blankets, they explained everything they were doing (like administering Turbutaline) before doing it so I understood the risks and benefits, etc. It was a nice, kind of relaxing experience. DH and I just laid in the dim room and enjoyed each others company while I progressed.
Finally, around 10pm, I felt a lot of pressure when my contractions (which I could still slightly feel) would come. I let my DH know I needed a nurse ASAP, a head was coming! The nurse came and was real calm, like she didn't believe me. She checked me and her demeanor changed. She quickly walked out of the room to get the OB and other nurses started to come. Because I had twins, one of which was breech, they had decided to transfer me quickly to the OR to deliver. I laid on my side, trying not to push, as they wheeled me throughout the halls. We got to the OR and within 5 min, and 2 pushes, Baby A (Kane Tiberius) was out at 10:38pm weighing 6.3 lbs! They let me have skin-to-skin time and gave me the delayed cord cutting I wanted. Then they and my DH went to the back to get Baby A cleaned while I pushed for Baby B. I couldn't feel my groin area so pushing was hard, since I didn't know if I was doing it right. It was taking a while and the doc seemed to be getting agitated. Finally, he decided to use a vacuum. Baby B (Silas Lee) was pulled out of me, not breathing, at 10:56pm weighing 5.3lbs. It was pretty scary but my DH stayed with him the whole time and they got him breathing very quickly. I got the vaginal delivery I wanted and everyone was safe and healthy!
For controversy sake here are our decisions. We kept the boys in the room with us, got both circumcised, declined the eye antibiotics (I was GBS neg) and Hep B vaccine, and got the vitamin K shot. I had no tears (but ended up with pretty bad hemorrhoids, TMI I know), I breastfed within the first hour, declined any pain killers more than Motrin. There was no need for the NICU. Everyones home and happy!
TD;LR: Went in for induction at 8am and was sent home to come back at 8pm. Went back to L&D at 4pm in natural labor. Got the epidural and progressed quietly until I felt pressure around 10pm. Delivered Baby A (Kane Tiberius) at 10:38pm and Baby B (Silas Lee) at 10:56pm vaginally. Both boys were healthy and didn't need NICU.

And I love you adding your little list of controversial choices.
