Extended BFing question (weaning?)

I'm nursing 15 mos old twins. Recently they've been nursing for a minute or two and then saying "bye bye boobies" and getting down to play. When they do nurse for a while (5-8 min), I used to feel markedly lighter and emptier and now I feel about the same... Are they just comfort sucking and gearing up to wean? I'm totally not ready

Re: Extended BFing question (weaning?)

  • I know........I dread the day my LO stops nursing and she's 17 months.  But, I think having them take the initiative to end it is way better than ending it yourself. These other posts where their toddler is begging to nurse and the mom has to say no because she is weaning, has actually brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't imagine ever having to turn LO away. No advice on your situation, just wanted to commiserate.

  • i think it's just a phase- DS had periods after he learned to walk where he was so busy exploring new things that he didn't always nurse for a long time during the day. and then there were periods where he was teething or didn't feel well and went back to practically newborn levels of nursing. ;) and yes, the amount of milk you have will certainly start to gradually decrease, but that doesn't mean that you're not making milk anymore. you can certainly offer them a nursing session if you feel like they're so distracted that they "forgot" to nurse. probably they will get in better nursing sessions in the AM/PM when it is quieter and they are less distracted.
