Birth control breakthrough bleeding

So I was on the mini pill. After I quit breastfeeding my doc switched me to Linessa which is a combo pill. I started having my period when I went on the pill (just a coincidence, because I was switching the day I went to the doc and started bleeding lightly the day before). Anyways - I'm almost at the end of my active pills and I'm still lightly bleeding. I've read that this can happen for 2-3 cycles before your body figures it out. Anyone have this happen? I really hope I don't bleed for 2 months. :-S

Re: Birth control breakthrough bleeding

  • I had several instances of break through bleeding and contacted my doc to see what she wanted me to do. Sometimes we waited to see if it would stop in a day and other times she wanted me to stop the pack completely and start a new one on Sunday (maybe depending on my CD? I'm not sure).

But after the mini pill, I wasn't on a combo pill so I'm not sure if that matters (LO/ovral).

  • I haven't been on bc pills in a few years, but if I remember correctly, usually my doctors wanted me to be on the pills for 3 months before we would change doses because of breakthrough bleeding or (in my case) not helping with pain.

  • Ok cool. Ya I'm just pissed because I'm supposed to be using vaginal estrogen pills to help make my vagina healthy before my Fenton's procedure. But I can't used them while I'm bleeding. It scares me because my doc told me to use them and if the pain goes away I probably could get away with not having the surgery. He knows that I switched to these birth control pills though. I'm worried that maybe these vaginal pills could have helped and I'll have surgery I maybe wouldn't have needed. I know there's nothing I can do about it, except hope that being on a combo pill is helping with making my vag not so dry like the mini pill and breastfeeding were. Ahhhh so annoying...
  • Can you put the surgery off until your breakthrough bleeding stops and you've given the vaginal estrogen pills a chance to work?

FWIW I went back to my 'normal' pill (that I had used before getting pregnany) after I stopped nursing DS1 and had a lot of breakthrough bleeding when I never had trouble with it before.  I think our bodies just change during/after pregnancy and it takes a while to readjust.  GL

Same thing happened to me. I had a ton of breakthrough bleeding and hormonal roller coasters on the pill I took before having LO. I ended up switching and after a couple months on the new pill I seem to be back to normal.

  • Ya I'm hoping it's just my body adjusting! I was on Yasmin before I got pregnant, but my doc wasn't crazy about me going back on it. I'm actually wondering now if I'm even going to go through with the surgery. Had sex last night and it felt pretty good. I'm thinking being on the combo BC and not breastfeeding has really helped. It's crazy how much breastfeeding dries everything up!! I'm confused because I don't know if I should deny the surgery. I wanted it before I went back to work (if I get it) and that time is coming up quick. But I feel like if sex is feeling ok, I probably don't need it. Decisions decisions...
