2nd Trimester

Mommies who have done this before did this happen to you?

With my first right after delivering the nurse had to "push" my uterus back in place. She said it had moved. I swear it hurt more then the whole 36 hour labour. Did this ever happen to anyone else? Did your doctor explain why this happened? Sorry I tried googling and couldn't find answers I'm worried it will happen agin this time and my doctor never explained it to me he had terrible bedside manner.

  • They frequently have to do fundal "massage" (worst massage ever!!) so that your uterus stays contracted to lessen bleeding. That could be it?

I've heard it can hurt pretty badly. I knew that going in so whenever I thought of it I massaged my own uterus (you can be much more gentle with yourself that someone else can be) so that it stayed hard.

  • That is normal. The pushing, or "massage" as some will call it, is to make sure your uterus is doing what it's supposed to do, which is to clamp down and slow the bleeding. It also helps to dispel clots and other amniotic and placental fragments. It's uncomfortable for sure, but necessary to help avoid hemorrhaging.

  • If she was pushing on your stomach yes this is normal. And it sucks. And just a warning- cramps tend to get worse with each baby. The after pains hurt more than labor I swear!
  • I never experienced anything like this with my first. Sorry you are going through it, but I just don't want FTMs to get freaked out because I think it's not that bad for some people.
  • Interesting maybe that was it they only did it once and it was about three minutes after pushing ds out. Thanks for the insight ladies!
  • @Maebb‌ Thank you. I'm a FTM. I was starting to panic. It sounds awful.
