Help! Need pumping advice

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. LO will be 4 months next week and I've been back to work for 8 weeks now. I'm consistently pumping between 18-24 ounces a day while LO eats between 8 - 12 a day at daycare. I've got enough stash in the stand up freezer that we are running out of space and I've lost count at how many ounces we have frozen.

I spoke with the pedi last week quickly about droping a pumping session while at work. Our "schedule" was once during the night, eat at 715 before daycare, pump at 840 when I get to work, 1140, 240 and then demand feed at night which usually ended up with two or three sessions. I was going to drop the 1140 and move the 240 up an hour. I did this for a couple days last week and DD slept 9 hours straight! (Although it appears now that she may be going through a growth spurt too). Honestly I felt like she was getting more at night than she had been previously.

I was talking to my BFF and she asked how BF was going so I told her about the over supply and dropping the pump. She was bascially told me that was suicide and that I shouldn't do it because I might need it later. Honestly, I have somewhere between 1000 and 1200 ounces frozen so if I keep the three pumps I'm going to end up tossing half of it anyways!

HELP! Do I drop the middle pump or not? I'm a FTM and have always had the fear of supply issues, which I clearly do not have since I could feed twins or triplets at this rate!!

Re: Help! Need pumping advice

  • Yeah drop the one pumping session and see what happens. If you feel comfortable donating it, there is a Human Milk 4 Human Babies facebook page, and there are always women looking for breast milk for their babies.
  • Loading the player...
  • Thanks ladies! I did look into donation but unfortunetly I am on a low dose of blood pressure meds and most places won't take it :(

  • If you donate through hmfhb or eof, there are no medication issues - you just tell the recipients if you are taking meds. I'm a ftm too with major supply anxiety and have donated 3000+ oz. it's totally fine.
