Baby Monitors

I'm have been doing research on baby monitors. DH wants a video monitor with an app for your phone. All the monitors I have found have mediocre ratings at best. Has any one heard of WiFi baby? They have good customer reviews and the tech blog have rated them high. I emailed a question and was sent a very prompt thorough response.
Wondering if anyone has experience with them?

I registered for the Motorola video camera! I believe it's the newest one this year. My friend has it and loves it. I won't do the WiFi one's that attach to your phone. I'm a little scared of those cause of reports of people breaking into your wifi and being able to see the baby. BBB also didn't recommend it when I was looking at them.

I haven't heard of WiFi baby, but we have a Foscam and I am really happy with it. We use an app called "Baby Monitor for IP Camera" by Tiny Solutions for it and it works pretty well for us. There is about a 2 second delay, which isn't a huge deal. You can set it up so that it is on your home network and only people connected directly to your network are able to see anything, or you can enable external access. My husband is pretty techy, and has our wifi and network pretty well locked down, so I felt ok having him set it up so that if I'm out of the house I can still check on Hailey. We will be getting a second Foscam for this baby and the app will allow us to monitor both at the same time.

I also like that it will work in the background, so even if I have a different app open I can still hear the audio. I can also talk to the camera from my ipad as well.

I haven't heard of WiFi Baby, however I have read great reviews for VTech's video/light show baby monitors. My uncle had a set for both their kids when they were babies and friends of ours, who have kids, loved it as well. It comes with the app for your phone, which is a new feature I believe. Hubby and I aren't really concerned about people hacking our phones as we are the only two, out of all our friends and colleagues, who know how to do this. And given where we live, there isn't much cause to fear that phone hacking and such is an issue. Mostly older folks and farmers live around us. If any of them had the knowledge or wherewithal to know how to do that, I don't think they'd be living in a little Podunk town like ours.

Foscan sells two types of monitors. The ones ending in p are "plug and play" and easier to set up

Question: can the video footage only be hacked if you're viewing from your computer/phone and not just be viewing the parenting unit?

If the camera is accessible over the internet, then it can be hacked. ABC did a story on it the other day. The main thing is to change the password from the default

I saw one at the Apple Store the other day, it was AMAZING. Hefty price tag at $250 though.... Streaming. Hooks up to Apple gadgets.

I am not techy at all. How do I know if it can be accessible over the internet? And password for monitor or internet?

if you hook the camera up to your home wireless internet, its accessible. If the monitor box says no wifi required, its not. As for passwords, make sure both your internet and your monitor have good passwords

A few years ago people hacked into baby monitors and used them to yell scary noises at random babies. Not cool. Never underestimate the underhandedness of some people.

Some of them you can. Others connect to your iphone/tablet. Others include mini-tv monitors
