Rotavirus Vaccine

So DS got his Rotavirus vaccine on Oct. 1st and they warned us to be careful changing diapers for 2 weeks if you are immunocompromised. Neither myself nor my husband are so we weren't too worried about it. Well, Friday afternoon my husband came home from work early and threw up everywhere. By 10pm that night I was doing the same thing! My parents came up to help Saturday and they both got it as well! My neighbor even came down with it after watching the little dude for 15 minutes while I cleaned up after DH. Holy cow! What a whirlwind 24 hour illness...

Since everyone's symptoms matched pretty closely with Rotavirus, I can only assume that that is where it came from. Has anyone else had experience with this after the Rotavirus vaccine? I'm really hoping the same type of thing doesn't happen after his next 2 doses!

No. In fact, they have mentioned nothing like that to us.

LI just got his yesterday and we were told the same thing. My husband takes shots that lower his immune system, so he will be avoiding poopy diapers for 2 weeks. I have been extra careful when changing diapers so I don't pass it to him.

Whaaaa? Is it because it was given orally? I wasn't told about this, interesting.

It's because it is a "live virus", which is why it is given orally. So the virus can be shed in their poop for a few weeks.

We are being cautious because DH is immune compromised while on these shots.

This is interesting, mainly because when I was a Drill Sergeant basic trainees weren't allowed to use Cadre bathrooms and vice versa, since they receive the Adenovirus vaccines upon arrival to BCT, and the virus is also spread through feces. I will have to ask our pedi about it. Hopefully since neither of us are immuno-compromised, thorough hand washing could prevent this.

I'm guessing just practicing good hand washing after changes and really trying hard not to eat, lick, or play with the poop too much will prevent the virus from spreading...

Let's hope it was something else so we don't have to worry about it the next two doses. Just so strange since we came down with it within hours of each other. Couldn't think of any other common source

My mom is a nurse at a pediatrician's office and she said that shouldn't be an issue. They've never warned parents about that.
