Posterior Tongue tie questions

Hello! I am sure other's have posted about this before but I am feeling torn so I wanted to see how other people have dealt with it. My DS has a posterior tongue tie. My DD had one as well but she was my first and I had the luxury to EP for 6 months. I haven't been to an ENT specialist yet but hope to go sometime this week. I am pumping to keep my supply up and hopefully I can get in ASAP. Anyone gone through "treatment" to correct this problem and what was your outcome? I am really nervous on going through an invasive procedure and not have it be successful.  I would like to hear both sides of the story, if you've had positive or negative experience. What did the doctor do to correct the problem? Were you successful? Silly question and I know it differs from state to state but wondering if your insurance covered it? Also, EP'ing isn't really an option this time around. Thanks!

Re: Posterior Tongue tie questions

  • My daughter had a posterior tongue tie and a lip tie. We had it corrected by a pediatric dentist and it was done with a laser. It was not invasive at all and I could tell an immediate difference with her latch. Her weight gain was significantly better and it most likely saved our nursing relationship. She was 4 months old when it was done and she is still nursing at 15 mos.

  • I have my 4 month old dd done with a laser as well about 2 weeks ago. So far, so good. She had a posterior tt and lip tie. Latch was immediately better. The stretches are the hardest part for me. We saw a pediatric dentist from a preferred providers list through the support group on Facebook. I would highly recommend looking into a preferred provider. The Facebook groups has a lot of great information!!!
  • My daughter had the same thing and we had it clipped at 8 weeks. This was our last hope because breastfeeding was so painful and we had already seen a few LC's about it. The decision was so hard because I didn't want to put my baby through any pain if I wasn't guaranteed it was going to work. We ended up getting it done and she cried for a minute or so, mostly because the nurse was holding her hands down, but they have you nurse immediately after and I could already feel a difference. The exercises were the hardest part because you have to do them after every nursing session. Our insurance covered the procedure. Personally I'm so glad we did it! We have been nursing for almost 7 months now and I'm not sure we would have made it this far if we didn't have it done. Good luck momma!!
  • I had a LC come in as soon as I got home since I had problems with bf the first time around.  my 2nd DD only had the posterior tt and we had the pediatric dentist laser it when she was 10day old.  I was on a nipple shield for my pain, but once she was weaned off the nipple shield a week later, she had no problems with latch.  LO was alittle more fussy the first 24 hours, but nothing severe (may not have even be related since she was only 10 days).  Even though she didn't cry much during the stretches, that was the worst part of it for me.
