Who thinks its too long to wait 4 weeks for each Dr appt?

I'm 11 weeks and 1 day and have my 12 week appt next Wed. I feel like its so long to wait since the 8 week appt. At the last appt, we saw the heartbeat pulsating but couldn't hear it. I haven't had too many symptoms in the last few weeks, so obviously I start to wonder if everything is ok. Anyone else feeling this way?

  • I agree, the anticipation is killing me though! :)

  • It's really hard for me to wait that long too! Especially when the symptoms are starting to fade and you can't feel the baby yet, a little reassurance would be nice! My 12 week is next Tuesday. Can't wait to make sure everything is still ok!

  • I agree.. waiting that long is excruciating.. my fiance and I go to a private clinic in between so that we get a second opinion, and a sneak peek in between the next ANC appointment. Plus u just want to know that everything is going ok. Tempted to buy a fetal doppler...but might get addictive and worrying too quickly! Good luck to the others.
  • I totally agree!! My next appointment isn't until the 31st!! I'm going crazy!! My symptoms also come and and go. A few days I'll be fine, then it hits me again. But I think at this point it's pretty normal, or so it's what I'm gathering from the forums. :)

  • I agree the anticipation is killing me. I'm considered high risk b/c I'm AMA, however I'm only seeing my Dr monthly??? I still have another two week before I see the Dr and have an US scheduled as well.
  • I'm considered high risk bc of twins and they said I'll prob end up seeing them more than the montly. I'm like yay and like that sucks bc I have hsa so I gotta meet my deductible bc insurance even steps in 3,000

  • I have a hard time scheduling around school drop off/pick up, needing a babysitter.  Once a month is enough for me.  Plus I have to see my endocrinologist more often too, so that's enough appointments for me.

My doctor office is an hour away. I have a co-pay of $30 for every visit. By the end that works out to $480 for visits. Assuming I have 2 u/s that's $120 for those co-pays. I'm low risk and this seems like a lot to me. Sorry @Pintobean39‌

Other than the cost, I just plain don't like having to go. I wish I could have a midwife come to my home. I trust my body to do what it needs to do. I was more nervous the first time but this time I know what to expect and am more calm. Maybe that is the difference. They can't do anything now but ease your mind. Worry is something that never goes away and once baby is born we can't be pacified by a doctor. It's a whole different set of things to worry about.
  • I totally understand wanting to go more often for reassurance, unfortunately, the reality is that if you're going more often it's most often times because something isn't right. So, at this point, I'd enjoy a "come back in 4 weeks" as that would mean the doc isn't concerned about my cervix shortening, or my blood pressure, or the possibility of another second trimester loss, or my thyroid, or me developing another blood clot.............. I do have a doppler and find that helpful in reassuring me that the baby is at least still alive.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • No, I don't think it's too long. Once you can feel the baby move you wont need to rely on a doppler at the appointments. The routine appointments are very quick, in and out unless you have issues, and I wouldn't want to have to go in more frequently. It gets tiring at the end of third tri, when you have to go in every two weeks and then weekly.

  • My doctors office is pretty good about appointments. I went for confirmation (urine test), then a 6-7 week U/S, then a 10 week doppler appt and if I have NT testing I will go back at 12 weeks for a U/S. Then I suppose my next visit would be around 16-18 weeks. I have had a previous MC so I actually went this time around for a U/S at 6 weeks and 7 weeks. My 10 week doppler appt along with blood work is tomorrow! Praying for healthy pregnancy and good news.

  • I go every 4 weeks as well... but not high risk.  I agree that the wait can be excruciating at times, but think of it this way.  If OB was concerned for any reason, the frequency of appointments would likely be increased.  It has taken a long time for me to convince myself of that, but after yesterday's appt after 4 long weeks... I'm starting to rest more assured that nature is taking its course and everything is progressing normally.  Sure... I would love to be able to see baby more often than that, but if OB and I are both happy, I see no reason to take up more of their time.

  • LOL @ dildocam. I had a dildocam u/s with my second and I told the tech I felt like we needed to get to know each other better. It's pretty awkward.

I teased my OB about having to roll a condom on to the dildocam before using it. "Is that a medical grade condom or...?" She laughed and then we joked that there's really no worry now that I'm already knocked up.

But I'm fine with appointments every four weeks, especially since my initial wait felt sooooo long. I found out I was pregnant as early as you possibly could and then the doctor's office doesn't schedule first appointments until you're at least 8 weeks. So to me 4 weeks vs. a month and a half is nothing.

  • As much fun as it is to have my vag on display, once a month is enough for me for now. I haven't even had my first appt yet (can't get in until nov 5th due to how busy our office is- I'll be 12 weeks by then). Trying to wrangle a toddler (or find babysitting) in a busy office is not fun, so I think anything more than once a month for a normal healthy pregnancy would be excessive, not to mention the strain it would put on the healthcare providers.

But maybe I'm just a stick in the mud and this pregnancy isn't as exciting or fun as my last one and I'm too tired for life.
  • haha I think I felt that way with DD1, but after that, I'm glad that it's only that often in the beginning. By the end when you are going 1x a week you'll almost wish that you were only going every 4 weeks

  • I like the 4 week wait cause it is easier on me to schedule everyone else and it is easier for DH to get the day off.

Since I am pregnant with twins I am sure I will have more appointments then usual but I am almost positive majority of my appointments I will be going alone because the appointments are too frequent and my DH can't take off that often. We shall see.

  • I think it is way to long I had an appointment and us at 9 weeks And now I have to wait till15 weeks until they will check on the baby again. I am freaking out.

In some ways it would have been nice to go in more frequently early on, but after my 11 week visit yesterday I feel more relaxed and am ok to wait 4 more weeks. I am sad that's OB hasn't used the Doppler on me though.
this is how I feel too.  In the first trimester, my doctor sees you quite a bit.  I saw her for a confirmation of pregnancy at 6 weeks or so. I'm going back for a repeat ultrasound to confirm growth at 8/9 weeks.  Then I'll take the Maternit21 test at 10 weeks and then do the nuchal scan at 12 weeks.  After that, it goes to every 4 weeks until 36 weeks.

I don't blame people at all for wanting to go a lot in the beginning.  Personally, the price of my nerves and sanity could easily be $300/week.  I don't mean to come on insensitive, but all of the "just be happy everything is okay and you don't have to go" comments in this thread are rubbing me the wrong way.
you get to go every 4 weeks until 36? you don't have to go every 2 starting at 32?
