Has anyone had their 3rd trimester growth scan? Its so fun seeing how big the babies have grown since last time!
Seriously? I might be jaded this morning but really?
No I have not had a growth scan...though i did have an emergency echo on my LO (results thankfully were "reassuringly normal") but the last thing going through my mind was "it is fun to see how much they grew".
I had a growth scan at 28 weeks and I have one coming up at 34. While happy to see my son, I was worried sick because growth scans aren't necessarily happy, carefree, elective ultrasounds. Thankfully he's measuring perfectly to the day so far.

I have an ultrasound on Friday. It is to check baby's position, weight, as well as fluids. I am looking forward to seeing her again and making sure all is well, my doctor does this for every patient that he has at 33 weeks just to make sure everything is on track and looking good.
DH and I: Dating: 08/2008, Engaged: 02/2012, and Married: 03/13!
I had a growth scan and was excited, yet nervous to see our little guy. We did have a scare b/c something with his heart was "thicker" than they would "like to see" but after running it by two doctors, they decided that with his GA (32 weeks 5 days) at the time of the scan, it was normal and there was nothing else that was off. It was very scary, but we were happy that it worked out.
Our guy (last Friday) was 4.5 pounds... right where he should be. That was fun and I think it is kind of crazy to see how much he has grown since our anatomy scan. Then they would use the ultrasound and you'd see almost his whole body, now, it is truly body part, by body part.
I have mine on Thursday and I'm very excited to see how big he is... even if the measurements are notoriously incorrect. Also interested to see what positions he goes in now - since I can feel him all over the place haha.
I had to have two because they were worried about the umbilical cord. It was a very scary week, but everything turned out fine. It was amazing to see how big he is now! You could actually see him practice breathing.
My OB doesn't do them unless there is a reason to. My fundal height measurements have been right on so I won't have another u/s unless something comes up.
I'm having an US at 32 weeks because LO was previously breech and I had a low lying placenta. My OB expect both problems to have resolved but we're having one to double check.

I had one last night (32w 3d), and my "little" babe was 4lb 10oz. My doc has me coming back between 37-38 weeks for another just to make sure he is still on the right path. As of now, he is head down and healthy Fingers crossed he stays that way!
Sorry if that offended anyone that I said it was exciting to see how much the baby had grown. I get ultrasounds because my other child is special needs and has multiple issues so they keep closer eye on this child. I will delete this if its too hurtful for people to read and they are annoyed by it
I don't think there is anything wrong with being excited to see how much your baby has grown. Give me a break!
I will be having a third trimester growth scan in the next couple of weeks, and provided everything is normal, it will be exciting to me. I'm having the scan because the medications I take pose a risk of IUGR. We've had no other signs of that so far, and it is just precautionary. Of course, I will be nervous until we see that Baby Girl has grown appropriately, but if she has, it will be fun to see her again.

Expecting another GIRL! Carter Grace due on 12/25.
I have a scan Thursday- I am nervous to see how it goes. This one was scheduled because she was running small last time and her head is in the lower 2 percentile. Hoping to see that she has grown and all is well...
I have one tomorrow- every 4 weeks with twins. I'm scared shitless at every appointment that they'll find something wrong. We discovered a mmc at an ultrasound and now they are anything but exciting for me.

I have one Monday for 32 weeks cause they originally considered me high risk from family history. Everything has been good so far so I think this is just a precaution, still very excited whenever I get to see DS. Plus MIL is coming and its on her bday, what could be a better present than to see your first grandson.

I think you Perhaps took it the wrong way? I only had one ultrasound with my daughter, and didn't realize anything was abnormal with her until she was older. As much as the us can be scary its nice knowing the new baby is doing well and at this point on track. As a mom of a child with scary ongoing issues, I'm trying to enjoy the fact that lo is healthy and trying to savor these moments I have knowing he is safe in there.
I will have an US at 36 weeks to check LOs position. All of my appointments have thankfully been normal and no need for an additional scan. I am excited to see LO again and see how he has developed and changed since 20 weeks.

Honey... you are starting to back pedal. It probably would have gone over better if you put some of your concern and interest for the growth scan first.
(Plus we have had enough drama on the board today... so we are a little more gun shy).

In two weeks, we will be having an ultrasound every other week until this baby is born. Last pregnancy, my fluid was nonexistent at our 37 week appointment and we had to take him early. My doctor said we were not letting that happen again. I am looking forward to seeing him again and am really glad this doctor is on top of the situation. It was scary being told to go to the hospital right then and that we were having the baby the next day because the situation in there had gotten dangerous.
This is interesting to me because I thought a scan at around 37 weeks was standard. I just found out at my last appointment that it's only if there is an issue or if they can't say with 100% confidence the baby is head down. It just seems like a lot of friends and family have had scans at that time so I just assumed I would get one too. Hopefully I won't need it.
I have a growth ultrasound this Friday and then again in 4 weeks due to being AMA. I'm also going to have weekly NST's/ultrasounds to monitor my fluid level starting in 2 weeks as my first son was born at 34 weeks due to loss of fluid. It's like a catch 22...excited to see the little guy, wish I could just make it to the end with no "extra" stuff to worry about.
Our #2 is on the way!
BFP #1 - 08.2008, EDD 3.19.09 - Missed MC at 9 weeks - 09.2008
@RayRay007 I share your exact anxiety about ultrasounds as I had a MMC last December. I didn't realize that ultrasounds may be a reason for worry until that happened. Now that I'm jaded, my anxiety goes wayyyy through the roof at every ultrasound I have. I will likely be having one more (although third trimester ultrasounds are definitely not standard here) because baby is still breech right now at 32 weeks.
I just had one last week and will have another in a couple of weeks to check growth. Since I have a high risk and the baby is running small I get lots. While I do enjoy seeing him, I wish I had a pregnancy where I didn't need so many. Each one is scary.
I am being monitored for a blood clotting disorder and have had ultrasounds every 4 months. It is sooo exciting to see the changes from month to month :-) In the initial stages, we were nervous each time that something would be amiss, but fingers crossed, all looks fantastic and everything is progressing normally! I can't wait to see my baby girl again in just under 3 weeks!
I wasn't expecting any more ultrasounds, but a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with hypertension so they did a growth ultrasound last Tuesday at my 32w appointment. Baby girl was head down and weighed in at 4lbs even. They let me know i would be getting another ultrasound in a month to make sure everything is still going good.
I'll have one at my 36 week appt. My office typically doesn't do them after the anatomy scan, but I got one at 28 weeks to check placenta placement. At that one, he was measuring 2+ weeks ahead (well, for as much as you can trust those measurements) so my office wants me to do another one at 36 weeks. I see a different doc or midwife each time (collaborative practice). The one at my 30 week appt said, "We'll do one at 36 weeks. We don't want you ruining yourself with a 9.5 pound baby so depending on the 36 week sono, we may start talking about a c-section."
DH and I were both very turned off by that comment - I don't see myself submitting to a major surgery just based on guestimates that LO may be big. No c-section hate - I just don't plan to schedule one unless it truly is for the health of the baby.
I can probably request another referral to the MFM practice for one. Not really for growth/weight estimate easons, but to recheck to see everything is fine (BPP) to give me a little peace of mind. After losing my first son so late in pregnancy, the last couple months are the worst in terms of anxiety.

Really?
I'm kinda confused by why this post is bothering some people. At my practice, a 36 or 37 week scan is normal. I know (from what others have posted here) that it's not standard practice for all OBs, and only done in case of need... But many offices do the US again as part of protocol. So, for me, I have no reason to be nervous about a scan, and am therefore excited to see the baby again.... My guess is that OP wasn't aware that these were done for some women as only a measure of precaution.
I am participating in a collaborative research study between the local university and hospital, specifically regarding weight gain for both mother and baby, so I will have an ultrasound at 30 weeks (next Thursday) and 34 weeks. These will target both my weight and the weight of the baby, but, as they are not conducted through (or even affiliated with) my doctor's office, I'm not sure if they're considered "growth scans." Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how things are going in there, and to see if my suspicions that he's a monster are correct! My doctor may order one at 36 weeks anyway, to check positioning...we shall see!
