Trouble TTC

help!

edited October 2014 in Trouble TTC
I am currently on CD 42 and (what I believe) is 17 dpo. I got a positive opk on CD 25. I have been taking hpt's but BFN. The other day I noticed ewcm and decided to take an opk and I don't know what to think.

ETA: still learning the ropes around here and I feel that some of this post was insensitive on my part. Hoping I can right my wrong! (trying to delete the pics)

  • I have been on boards before and have ultimately left because of "trolls" or just not the sense of support I was looking for. I appreciate the concern you have for the ladies on this board and my intentions were not to be insensitive or to expect support from anyone without giving it. I really do have a lot of "history" that I am sure can be of help to others on here. I am working on piping up instead of just lurking.

So with temping, the temp has to be done at the same time each day, correct? I live on a working ranch and I am not sure how I would do that.

Before my gastric bypass I wasn't having cycles and so this is actually relatively new to me even though we have been TTC for a long time.

  • With PCOS, a positive OPK doesn't always mean you ovulated. If you are pregnant at 17DPO, you should be able to turn a pregnancy test. I would probably start temping. I work a crazy schedule and didn't temp at the same time every day, you just need to temp after at least 3 hours of sleep. Good luck!

  • Thanks @kristyn831

Can I start temping anytime in my cycle or should I just start on CD1?

  • I would sign up for fertility friend, it's a great resource and easy way to track temps. You can start at any time of your cycle just to get in the habit. Ideally, you would have an entire cycle worth of information to see the thermal shift you're looking for. Some of us skip temping until period is gone, but I always temped on CD1.

  • I always had trouble with temping because I never get up at the same time...so I just set my alarm to the earliest time I would ever have to get up, temp and check it, then go back to sleep until the next alarm I set.

If you have HPT- and no period, and are past 17DPO, then it just means you didn't actually O when you thought (16 days is the longest a luteal phase should be). As PPs said, with PCOS (and even without it) an OPK+ doesn't really prove anything. It sounds like you may not be ovulating at all this cycle if you have an OPK+ at CD42. Perhaps you can go to your RE for bloodwork to make sure, and a Provera prescription to bring on your period so you can start the next cycle?

  • As a woman with PCOS, I've thrown out the OPKs. I also have difficulty temping accurately due to erratic sleep schedule. Based on my AMH level, my RE thinks I've only ovulated a handful of times...ever. Based on my testosterone level, it is safe to assume I will not ovulate naturally in the foreseeable future. While knowing this sucks, it makes the "natural" cycles less crazed (I just assume no ovulation and don't even worry about it - this doesn't work for everyone). Has your doc reviewed with you the likelihood of you ovulating naturally based on your tests?
