EBF moms

I want to build a better milk supply, what are some ways I could do that? I have enough to feed my baby, but I want to be able to start building a milk stash.
Please help.

Re: EBF moms

  • Try to pump after every feeding to increase your supply. Be careful though, having an over supply can be a huge pain.

  • Huge pain is an understatement! I got busy one day and skipped a pump (I EP). Then my supply decreased a tad. To compensate, I pumped extra the next day-pumping on my regular schedule but for a couple minutes after my boobs were empty each session. My supply didn't increase after a day, so I kept up the longer pumping sessions. The results of over pumping take a couple days to change your supply. 6 days later my boobs were so engorged I cried in pain. They stayed engorged for a day and a half... I woke up in pain at 3 am and had to take a hot shower and pump to relieve the pain... Completely terrified that I would accidentally trigger my body to produce even more milk. Completely ruined my weekend. Just give it some time if you pump empty breasts and it "seems" to not yield results.

  • Your supply is highest in the morning. Can you nurse on one side and pump the other?

  • I do Almond Milk and Malta Goya malt soda. Careful drinking both in one day though. Plugged ducts and rock hard boobs are not fun.

  • I had a job interview this past Friday so had to pump some bottles for DH to give DS while I was at my interview. I used a hand pump on the opposite breast while DS was nursing at one feeding per day. Also drinking extra water helps, as well as eating oatmeal.
  • Also drink Ovaltine, the kind with malt. My lactation consultant had this on her list if things to help increase production.
