TTC After a Loss

AW: I finally bit the bullet, getting more testing done

Saw my OB today and expressed my concerns about not getting pregnant even with perfect BD timing the past 7 cycles.  She told me what I expected her to tell me, that it's not a concern quite yet and she would still not consider us to be having infertility issues.  She was concerned however with my short LP and said it's possible I have a LPD, which even then she wasn't too concerned because she said it can be solved with progesterone supps.  She said I'm still not considered AMA nor would she even put me in the RPL category yet.  All good things I suppose.  So the plan going forward at this point are a few more blood tests for some autoimmune issues and thyroid.  I've already had a full clotting panel done and some thyroid tests.   I also have a sonogram scheduled next Monday which, depending on what they see, may or may not turn into what sounded like an HSG? (where they inject saline?)  She wants to make sure I don't have a septum or scarring from the D&Cs.  So there's my plan going forward.  Hopefully it all comes back normal, but at least I'm doing something proactive and it makes me feel a bit better.  Thank you ladies for reading my AW post, here's some lava cake as a reward for making it this far :)

Re: AW: I finally bit the bullet, getting more testing done

  • If all together you've been TTC for over a year (which it seems like you have), you may want to seek out a RE for testing and possible treatment.

It took me 11 cycles to get pregnant, and after my loss, I was told that my "clock" started over and I needed to wait another year to start testing. Since then, I've read my insurance plan more in depth and learned that I didn't need to wait another year to see a RE. My RE was surprised I had waited that long as well.

    GL with the testing!

  • FX for you moving forward. I would push to have the SIS (saline sonohystergram). My septum and the scarring were never visualized on an abdominal ultrasound or transvag ultrasound.
  • Thanks for the kind words ladies. @BethKate2 yes we have been trying for over a year, but she still thinks that getting pregnant is not the issue, it's staying pregnant.  BUT she did say if in another few cycles we were still not pregnant then we would start looking deeper.  @PinkCamino yes it will be an SIS, that's what I was trying to think of!  I will definitely push for it if they don't say anything during the sonogram.  Though having saline injected into my uterus does not sound fun :(

  • @dawnstar898, hopefully you won't be at this much longer, but if you do get the point of looking deeper, I would just caution you from doing it with an OB.

No, I know.  She already mentioned seeing a specialist.  Luckily there are multiple REs in the medical group that I go to and they are all close by.  I live in a good part of the US when it comes to specialized medical care, so there's something in my favor :)
