Jacob: are we over it?

It's my newest name crush... loving Jacob; a little luke-warm about the nn Jake but I'm sure it's unavoidable.  Is it too popular/played out?  It was ranked number three in my state for 2013.  Thoughts?  I want to avoid a trendy, time-stamped name.

Sibset would be Cameron (Cam), Drew, and Jacob (Jake)

  • Any Twilight-induced popularity surge does not take away from it being a classic name.  It's not a name that will ever go out of style (barring any psychotic dictators sharing that name.)

  • It's classic. Yah it's popular, but it's nice.
  • It's nice, but popular. If you like the name that's all that matters.
  • It's a classic and jake is a sweet nn to me but I'm tired of it. I used to sub and the high school had a group of boys who were all friends. 3 of the 5 were named Jacob so they went by JC, JT, and Jake. That doesn't even include the other Jacobs in the school that weren't a part of that group. There were a ton.
  • Love it in the middle name spot
  • I'm not over the name Jacob, I think it's classic and handsome.

  • my brother (28) is a Jacob. We rarely meet others which seems odd given its popularity, and I'm the only one who calls him Jake :) If you stand your ground the nn can be avoided

  • I'm over it.  My son is in 1st grade and he basically has 3 friends (Jacob, Jake S., and Jake J.) I keep waiting for him to make friends with someone that is  not named Jacob/Jake!
  • I like it, and don't care about popularity. It's popular, not trendy, imo, so it in no way will have a time stamp. I kind of forgot about the Twilight connection, and am fairly sure most of America has as well.
  • It's classic. You can't go wrong.

  • It's a nice name, I must admit I am over it. I know two baby Jacobs and I don't know very many babies.
  • I love Jacob. It's one of my favorite boy names.
  • I've always been surprised that this name is so high on the popularity charts. I barely know any Jake/Jacobs. I know one who would be about 26 and one that is about 7. That's it!

Anyways, popularity is not what it used to be and less children are given the most popular names as parents breach out. I wouldn't let it's popularity rank dissuade you at all. I also consider this a classic as it's a biblical name that has been used for a very long time, so I don't think it will ever be time stamped. :)
