So my partner recently told his work that we are expecting because the position he is in at the moment is just not going to be able to sustain us financially.
A little bit of background, my boyfriend was on the tools for 5 years and this year fell off the roof he was working on and broke his pelvis, as a result the company really graciously offered him an office job but the pay cut was nearly 50%.
So anyway, he's now up and moving around just as well as before, his boss is a great guy and totally understands that his wage isn't enough to support a family. So Doug got offered to go back on the tools and resume that line of work, or move to Canberra (we are in Sydney) and manage their office there.
Basically, we know no one in Canberra but there would be no serious work related safety risks. The pay would probably end up being the same. Just after opinions and advice

oh and I am able to secure a job in Canberra.
Sorry it's a ridiculously long entry.

Re: NBR question
I agree with @sharkfarts - that is a tough decision.
If you guys move, are they helping pay for moving expenses? If the pay would be the same, I would stay where you are at. If he was offered more and moving expenses were covered, then I would say go for it.

@vickersh1 I actually am not sure about helping with the moving expenses, definitely need to get my partner to ask if that's covered.
@ashleyinva I think he is leaning towards going but I know he's concerned about the stress that it could put on me and the baby.
@sharkfarts thanks for the advice, good food for thought. I think it is a good stepping stone for his career.
