1 year shots hell!!!

Ever since DD had her 1 year shots a little over a week ago, it has been hell over here! At different times throughout the past 9 days she has had a low grade fever, a rash that looked like measles, diarrhea, a hard red lump on her leg that is hurting her, and is she sleeping terribly!!!

Her BM's also changed to pale yellow, but I'm wondering if that's from changing to WCM???

Did anyone else's kiddo react this badly? I have called the doctor and am waiting to hear back, but in the meantime was wondering what you all have experienced.

Of course when I google all these things I just get worried... There are a lot of scary anti vax articles about the MMR vax. I know it's been disproven but still scares me with all these symptoms she is having and how poorly she feels

LO had hers last Monday but didn't have any reactions to it. The nurse did say one shot might leave a red mark/dot on her leg, but that she shouldn't have any other reactions.

LO's poop hasn't really changed since her switch to WCM. Have you given her any other new foods?

This scares me. We got shots today. However I will say that the rash could be from the fever and not the shots. DS had a low grade fever a few weeks ago and got a rash from it. I would make the dr see LO just to confirm this is from the shot. Good luck! Hang in there!

She did great with her 1 year shots -- barely affected her. But two weeks later she got her flu shot (and although I'm pretty sure it's purely coincidence) came down with conjunctivitis, a nasty cold and an ear infection all at once.

We skipped MMR this time so she just got chicken pox and flu. No major issues over here.

Thanks everyone.... I sorta wish we had spaced the shots out . I don't know if this is all from the shots or just coincidental timing. It doesn't sound like most babies have reacted to the shots too much. SS over here! Still waiting to hear from the doctor. Hoping my girl is back to normal soon.

A week after his shots, my LO had a fever for 3 days and slept poorly and was just miserable. The dr did say the reaction to MMR can show up anytime within two weeks after the shots.

Lilli had a low fever, poor sleep, decreased appetite for solid food, loose stool and was super cranky for about 8 days post shots. All she wanted to do was splash in the tub and nurse. But after the week from hell, she was back to normal. This too shall pass.

They have 7 scheduled shots for the 1 yr appt at A's pedi. We did 4 because I just couldnt do that to her. So she got them this morning and I had to head off to work, leaving her with the ILs... I hope shes ok, they warned us about the live vax and to have tylenol on had jic.

He just had his shots last WednesdAy and thankfully no reaction. The docfor said he could get a pretty high fever that could last awhile but to trust my gut on anything abnormal. I'd say to trust your mom gut if it keeps worrying you.

Oh no... Poor kid

Rebecca hasn't had her needles yet. She was suppose to this past Friday she got a ear infection so doctor said to reschedule.

I heard back from the doctor and we have an appointment for tomorrow. She said the red lump and rash are probably from the chicken pox vax (heads up for anyone who hasn't had shots yet) but that the temperature shouldn't be sticking around this long as well as her sleep being affected so much. So we'll see tomorrow if she might have come down with something. FX that she's feeling better soon! Hopefully nobody else's LO goes through this!!!

Actually there were two MMR Vax cases that went to court and won in the last 2 years. One of those things that were not in the main media and in the local papers only. Not around here, but I am on a different group and they were posted.

Anyway, that reaction is why I delay and spread out the boosters for all my kids. I love how the some Dr. makes it seem like life or death to wait one week longer for the next shot. Anyway, I do not allow more than one at once. This is how I see it. I know how I feel after a MMR or Dtap booster (I had updates of both as an adult). I feel like poo for a few days. So why am I sticking my poor child with multiple shots at once? #1 and #2 I had done on schedule and how many they wanted. After them, no. Sure you can "get it over with at once" but my younger kids cry less and have no fear when I tell them they are getting shots. Unlike the 2 older ones. Even the 5 year old is ok with it.

@AlwaysForgetful That's not a bad idea. After this experience, I may space then out a bit. They gave her 5 shots all in the same visit. That just seems like a lot for her little body to deal with at once. I definitely know she needs them in time but maybe not all in one visit.

She appears to be feeling much better today thankfully.

She just had hers today (she got 4), but they did them in the arm this time. They did warn me about rash where she had the mmr shot but that's about it.

LO only got 2 shots this time. What all is everyone getting at the 1 year? She got the MMRV and HiB. I know some vaccines have a large window of when they can be given (like 6 months), but 7 or 5 versus 2 seems odd. I don't think she's ever gotten more than 4.

On top of that, she had a heel prick for lead testing and a TB test.... Way too much poking of my child. I cried, she cried, we all cried. It was awful.

Never. Again.

ETA: up until this visit she never had more than 3 at a time.

Ahh, the flu shot. I forgot about that one. They were out, so we have to go back for that one. So that would've made 3 for us. The MMR and Varicella vaccine was combined into one, but looks like some people get it separate.

According to our schedule, she will get HepA and Prevnar at 15 months. And she had the blood test at 9 months.

For example, I know the MMR and chicken pox vax are both recommended by the CDC to be given between 12-15 months of age. I am curious if they could be split up and given separately within the recommended timeframe. It appears that some doctors are doing this from the replies here alone. I would have been interested in what my doctor had to say. That's all. BUT, I didn't think to ask so it doesn't really matter now. Ultimately, I would have gone with my doctor's advice as I'm certainly not an expert in that field.

On a different note, I'm happy to report that LO seems to be back to normal today. She didn't end up having any illness. She simply reacted poorly with the shots, but it seems we are in the clear for now. Yay! FX that all the other babies do well with their shots. Thanks for all the replies!
