Trouble TTC

WWYD?

I started running back in May and I've made some decent progress with my time and distance. My longest run has been 8 miles at this point, and I've been saying I really want to run a half marathon at some point in 2015. A friend of mine just invited me to join her for the Boston's Run to Remember half in May, which I would love to do! The thing is, of course, I'm hoping to be KU by then. If one of our first treatment cycles works, I could be 6-7 months pregnant in May.

My head tells me that after over 2 years of TTC, I can't plan my life around whether or not I might be pregnant, but my heart wants to believe that the treatment will be what we need and I'll be pregnant soon.

Currently, registration is $60, but if I wait, it goes up to $105, and it might sell out if I wait too long.

What would you do? Would you register and chance being out $60, or would you wait and chance having to pay $105 or not being able to run at all?

Re: WWYD?

  • Everyone's financial situation is different, but I'd absolutely sign up now. Training will be a great distraction, and when you do get KU, $60 down the drain will be nothing compared to your happiness!

  • @GinnyJones82, that's a good question about selling my spot. Maybe I could. Hm...

  • I agree with what the PPs said. I'd rather spend $60 now and happily waste it than have to pay $105 later or not be able to do it at all.

  • I say do it!
If you sign up but then end up getting pregnant, you're going to be so happy that missing out on the marathon won't be a big deal. And maybe you can sell your ticket (if that's how it works?)

If you don't do it but don't get pregnant, you'll really regret missing the marathon.

  • Yeah, you ladies are probably right. It'll be a nice distraction if I'm not pregnant by then, which if I'm honest with myself, will probably be the case. If I am lucky enough to be KU, the $60 I spend now will mean nothing to me by then.

  • Yep, in your shoes I'd go ahead and plunk down the $60, just in case.  I'm stuck at about 7 mile long-runs, myself.  Good job getting to 8!
@BlueFairy5, I got stuck right around 6.5, but last weekend I went to a bike path and ran 8. Being on the bike path really helped because all I had to do was force myself to run 4 in one direction so that I had to run 4 back again!

This. I skipped out on an obstacle course race with friends awhile back because I thought I might be pregnant when the time came. Didn't happen, and when the day came and went, it was an even more depressing reminder that I still wasn't preggo. Think of it as an investment in your sanity.

I am totally impressed by runners. If I get to a mile it is a cause for celebration.

  • Go for it! If it turns out you can't do it for happy reasons, that's not such a big deal. It'll be good to have something to look forward to and train for. Good luck

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

  • I was thinking the same as Rainbow. Perhaps you could walk a shorter distance during the marathon even if you do get KU. It would be worth it to still be a part of the environment and get to experience the marathon, even if you're not running it.

Even if you have to walk that thing 6 mo. pg, you'll finish it!  And most races will totally let you "drop down" a category to a shorter race if you've already registered.  (Plus, there's always a "defer" option.)

Plus, I don't mind signing up for races that have a good cause behind them, even if I end up not racing. I just consider it a charitable donation!

@lemonliz, because of the size of the race, they're not allowing walkers. Anyone who doesn't reach the 2 mile point by 28 minutes gets redirected to the 5 mile course.

If I can't run the half, I'll probably try to drop down to the 5 miler.
