Droopy eyelid?

Ugh, I noticed this morning that LO's left eyelid is kind of droopy. I thought I was imagining it, and then the more I looked the more worried I got. The nurse practitioner at our pedi wanted to see him so I brought him in. She checked his eyes and reflexes and said everything looks good but when she asked the doctor her recommended a referral to a pediatric neurologist. Now I am going crazy with worry. Of course they can't squeeze him in for a couple of weeks and we were even lucky to get in that soon.

Has anyone else had this issue before? I am looking for some reassurance that this probably isn't a brain tumor or a serious neurological problem because my anxiety is really taking off. Thanks in advance if you have any stories, or just T&P.

Re: Droopy eyelid?

  • Hi, lurker over here. I work in the Recovery Room for a pediatric hospital, most of the surgeries we see that fix this are just related to tendon/muscle. I have not ran across any serious causes of this. I hope this helps your anxiety. I hope your LOs isn't anything serious!

I don't have anything helpful to add but just wanted to say I'll be sending lots of T&P'S that it's nothing.

  • Thanks everyone! It has been looking better since Friday so I am hoping that it was just irritation or an eyelash in his eye or something. It is so hard to tell because his eyes are slightly different-shaped anyway so I am trying not to obsess about it! We will keep the neuro consult just in case.

@Chillpr - You are SO right about google. I googled just enough to figure out that it was a terrible idea and called the doc instead. That is a tough decision about the surgery. Good luck either way. Your LO is super cute!
