How do you describe movement?

I imagine we all have creative ways to describe the movement of our LO. When people ask, how do you describe movement? I often say it feels almost exactly as you would think it would feel. To get more specific I say it feels a little like a frog jumping under your skin. That sufficiently freaks people out. :)
This baby also likes to make this movement that I can feel on both sides on my bump at once. Like she is stretching out across. No idea what she is actually doing in there but that seems about right. What do you tell people?

  • It depends on the type of movement. Some times it feels like twitches and at times it feels like something is going to kick all the way through my stomach. I've also felt rolling.

  • I've said that it feels like an alien. But I don't really know what an alien feels like so...

I told DH that it feels like something is pushing against something. Not a great description, but I don't know how to explain it.
  • Lol already starting with rough housing and sibling rivalry.

Yep this. I'm actually shocked by how much movement feels painful this time around and I still have 12 weeks to go. Movement never hurt with my daughter but when this kid moves it actually feels like she's pulling or tugging on my insides and its unpleasant.

  • When I first started feeling movement early on, I described it as that "I'm about to crap my pants" feeling.

    Don't pretend like y'all don't know.

  • I've told people who asked that early movement feels like a butterfly flying or a fish swimming in your belly and that now it either feels like hiccups in your belly when they're just jumping around and that when they're kicking punching that it literally feels like someone is kicking or punching from the inside.

I don't think you can really get what it feels like until you feel it. I know I've had people explain it similarly to me, but when you have to frame of reference, it's hard to really imagine. Or at least, it was for me!

  • My DD towards the end would always stretch her leg out in one spot, felt like it was going to pop through my stomach, right under my rib cage. After she was born I had what I can only describe as "phantom" pain of her still kicking in that spot... even though she was out (maybe that was part of my magnesium trip though, who know). What I liked the most was once she was an outside baby, seeing her movements and thinking "oh, that's what you were doing in there!".

  • I always say she's kicking or punching me from inside I can tell the difference it's crazy. I tell my H all the time she treats me like a trampoline because sometimes she kicks so frequently it's kind of ridiculous but I love it :)

I absolutely had this experience after my daughter was born for quite a while. I called them exactly that-- phantom kicks.

  • Earlier in my pregancy, I would describe it as drunk goldfish swimming around. Now that he's stronger, it's more like a drunk MMA fighter. Oh and sometimes my whole tummy vibrates and it feels like I swallowed my iPhone.

  • Haha I say it's like an alien, my brothers used to say when I was pregnant with DS it looks like aline vs predator because you could see clearly feet, hands rump ect. With this LO placenta is anterior so it's harder to determine which part of her is poking out sometimes. I tell my DS it's like alien vs predator. But she flips and stretches out diagonally, and squirms around so much that I describe her like a fish or swimming in a pool. She does kick and I can tell she's growing so much. Within seconds I will get kicks in my crotch area and then on my right bottom rib. She's definitely all over the place, it's amazing to watch/feel. But can hurt sometimes and wakes me up often.

  • I've used the alien line as well. Sometimes its kicking and sometimes she's just moving positions - to me that's when it feels really weird. It's like a wave of different intestines getting hit.

I find it really hard to describe to people . It just feels like there is something alive and moving around inside of me. Why don't people get that? :)
  • I say it feels like he's dancing.
  • I agree with pp's...definitely like an alien. It was like flutters for awhile, now it's full on jabs and kicks. Sometimes they're pretty low down, sometimes more around my navel area. Last night I could feel her stretching or something because I felt impact on both sides of my stomach at the same time. For the most part I love feeling her move. The other night when she was direct kicking my vagina at dinner...not so much. I had to get up and go lay down to get her to switch positions. Nothing like a swift baby kick to the hoo-ha!

  • Everybody' pretty much covered what I'd seriously say, except I never got phantom kicks...  So movie quote time!

It's like if you ate a meatball sandwich, then that meatball sandwich was kicking you.

    Name that movie!

  • The beginning always felt like popcorn popping to me with both pregnancies. Now I don't really know how to describe it other than what it is, squirming and kicking under the skin. Not a fan of those cervix kicks though, this baby seems to love doing it lol.

  • I always describe it like this,
When you live on the bottom floor of an apartment and you can here the people above you walking and rough housing around, if that noise was a feeling, that's how it feels. Haha.
  • @LadyXaverian‌ glad to hear you had phantom kicks too! I'd never heard anyone describe that and thought I was tripping or something. Even when I joked about it to the nurses they looked at me like I was crazy, haha.
