Diaper bag recs for new baby and toddler

I'm needing recommendations for a new diaper bag. We have a 3-year old, and our second child due in December. Would like a roomy diaper bag (would prefer backpack style but will get what is practical for our purposes) with a cooler compartment(s) that will hold at least two 8 oz Dr. Brown bottles preferable with a cold pack. Tell me what has worked for you. Thanks in advance!

  • Im no help but I also have a three year old and due in december. Im all about the packpack. Just need to find one!

  • My friend has the Jujube Be Prepared bag, and I would probably get something like this if I wanted to spend a lot of money.

We'll have a 25 month old and a newborn, but I don't really want to buy an expensive bag, so we'll probably just get a little backpack for DS and then keep the baby stuff in the diaper bag we're using now.
  • We just ordered an Obersee diaper bag backpack. It was quite a bit more than we wanted to spend, but it met all of our criteria and then some. Looks very versatile and can be used for a day hiking pack after it has served it's purpose as a diaper bag. Waiting on the pack to arrive. Hope it lives up to our expectations!

By the way, I looked at Ju-Ju-Be bags for quite a while (even before I posted this). Really liked them, but I kept running across complaints that they were heavy. Can't personally vouch for that, though. Not to mention, the hubs can carry this Obersee pack without compromising his manhood. Haha!

Check out the phoebe bag and Melissa bag. Machine washable and lots of pockets.
  • A toddler backpack. Your toddler can help out and carry it. Use the little cooler bag you get with the hospital diaper bag. You put a jumper for each kid in it, a few diapers and some wipes. You can also put a snack for the 3 year old in it. It's light enough a 1 year old can pick it up and drag it all over, so not an issue for a 3 year old to carry it.

Yes, I am being serious. I guess I don't understand the need for the huge bags everyone uses. Even with an all day outing. I have those too except with 5 kids 7 and under. 2 in diapers/pull ups and one in a pull up when out and about due to his special needs. Just need the one backpack and it is still light enough for the 1 year old to pull all over.

  • I LOVE my Patunia Pickle Bottom Sashay... it's a backpack or goes over the shoulder. I'm having another little one in January, and I currently have a 2 year old in potty training. Seems like it's going to be perfect... I hope lol!

Which one did you get? I just saw these online and love that they can be used as something other then just a diaper bag!
  • My first two were 16 months apart and I used the PPB Abundance Boxy Backpack and it worked out well. It was big enough for me to sink the cooler bag in no problem. It had plenty of storage and was easy to clean. I'm going to use it again for at least the first few months and then switch to something a little smaller since my middle guy will be two at that point. The JuJu Be are also great.

  • I have a 2 year and one due in Jan. I think it depends if you want a roomy bag or a bag with lots of compartments and pockets. For myself, I love a roomy backpack and the Beebaba is my go-to bag now. It's cheap and durable and just works. My partner finds it too roomy (or I suspect it's the pink) and he prefers his Okkatots.

  • I have a 2 year old and a 1 month old and I agree that a backpack is the,way to go! I just bought a (non diaper bag) Roots backpack @ Costco for I think $20 (In Canada). Lots of pouches and roomy enough to cram in my Ergo and the infant insert. I have all our diaper stuff in a Skip Hop diaper clutch/ change pad thingy which I put in one of the pouches to stay organized. You could just get a small insulated pouch for your bottles.

It was either the Oslo or the Bern. Whichever it was, I think we paid around $150, so whichever is closer to that price.
