What are you washing- a FTM problem

I totally get washing all clothes and bedding before putting the kid in it but what else are you washing...Toys? Stuffed animals? Stroller/car seat liners? Those little lovey blankets? I am afraid that I am getting carried away over here. Yay for nesting, I guess.

  • You ladies are making me feel so much better. Everything that can be washed is being washed in the Banker House.

Second question: DH's grandmother is tell me I am washing things too soon and I will need to re-wash everything. Would you re-wash anything you are washing now?

  • I am feeling like a slacker. I wasn't going to wash too much until we are closer to the date or baby is here. There will be a couple of basic things but not sure how big baby is going to be or how fast he is going to out grow things.

  • I wouldn't .... If you're putting it away and keeping things clean, I'd leave it be.  I've washed all of my hand me down clothes, bibs, blankets, burp cloths, hats.  They're all neatly folded into storage containers that are labelled by size.

If you're washing clothes and leaving them out on the floor or somewhere for them to collect dust, then I'd probably be washing again.

I haven't gotten too many clothes since we are team green and "you can't shop for clothes for a baby you don't know the sex of" so I am washing almost ever NB and 0-3 month outfit I have gotten. Plus, my SIL handed me down like the whole 0-3m baby gap collection so that is ready to go.

I am started to freak that I am at 7 weeks max for this kid coming out and I haven't done anything before this weekend.

  • @SLC1102‌ do you have any interest in coming over and handling all my delicates and prewash baby clothes?

  • I'm washing it all--every blanket, burp cloth, CD, onesie, car seat cover...I even washed the Boppy a friend gave us from her boys' using it. Having that stuff done gives me a little more peace of mind in how 'prepared' we are before DS arrives!
  • I probably won't start washing until the beginning of Dec but I'm a rebel procrastinator like that. I'll wash clothes, blankets, bedding, car seat cover, stroller cover, cloth diapers...but most has been stored for a while. I didn't wash the car seat/stroller covers when they were new but probably should have.

  • All the bedding and clothes, like you mentioned. Though my advice as a STM, don't wash ALL the clothes now. I washed every single piece we had for DD and there were so many things she ended up never wearing. I'd wash maybe N-3 months for now, then wash as you move up in sizes.

I also washed all the pacifiers, bottles, nipples, etc. Toys, stuffed animals, stroller/car seat parts (unless they were used) don't need to be washed IMO.

I was going to wash every single thing today but then I decided my washer should be cleaned first. So I spent all day deep cleaning my washing machine, dryer and laundry room. Basically I learned today that nesting is actually a real thing and I'm insane. Sorry that I'm not at all helpful.

(Yet I didn't think to wash the car seat... I'm too nervous to manipulate it after getting it checked by the fire department.)

  • I washed everything that could be washed! I figure with LO gets here I won't have time. My shower is at the end of October so I will have to do some more but at least for now everything is cleaned and put away.

This is exactly what I did.  I wash the clothes I think I will need and wait to do the rest until I need them.

I didn't wash stuffed animals and car seat/stroller parts either.  I do pop the stuffed animals and similar things in the dryer for a little while to get rid of dust and what not and then I wipe down any hard toys, but I'll probably wait until she actually starts playing with them before I do that.

  • Clothes, blankets, my ring sling, and burp cloths (cloth diapers). Not washing liners for car seat, etc. Probably should, eh? Guess it just didn't cross my mind!
