scary incident

My kids have had colds for a few days, with ds being a bit worse. So, for the last few nights he has had he coolmist machine. Yesterday, I was going to get a second one and forgot. So last night, I put it on in ds room. Around 11, dd sounded awful, so I decided I was going to sneak it into her room. It was burning hot I couldn't touch it. I quickly unplugged it. Dh could smell a smoky smell two rooms away. I don't even want to think would could have happened it I didn't go to switch it to dds room.

    This happened to me with a fan, too. Something happened to the cord and it melted the plastic coating. How scary!

    So scary!  It makes me want to reconsider using a fan in our room!  DS's room is a better temperature, but our room gets crazeee stuffy and hot.

    So scary! We use a fan too! So now I'm thinking, would a white noise machine be safer? Is there one everyone recommends? We still bed share so I need something I can live with too.

    Homedics sound spa.
    We actually opted for the portable one.  It's $5 cheaper and can be used on battery power when away from home.  IT was $15 at BuyBuyBaby with a coupon.
    Ds has a homedics sound spa and we love it, but the projector is starting to die :(

    We have a homedics as well and I thought I was just going crazy when the projected time was getting harder and harder to see. Now I know that it could be going out. Booooo!!!!!
    We have the sound machine and a fan going 24/7 in DDs room. Her room is super hot all summer and super cold all winter. She still wakes up at night so I get to feel the room then. Plus we try to open the door some when we go to bed.
    Very scary for sure. Glad it all worked out.
