FTM questions - wipe/diaper cream related

So after thinking about these things, I've realized they're probably silly questions but being a FTM (due in December) I seriously don't know the answers.

Do you still use a wipe with just a wet diaper? I have cloth wipes and planning to start with using plain water to wet them.

And do you use diaper cream with every diaper change? If so, what is the best every day diaper cream? I have Earth Mama Angel Baby and a tub of coconut oil.

  • I will admit that I don't always wipe for just a wet diaper. I feel like I would be more careful about this if I had a girl.

I don't use cream at every change.

I dry him off with a dry wipe (I use a spray bottle to wet as needed) after just a pee. And I only use cream (EMAB or Group Via magic stick) if he is bit red and before bed for a little barrier. I have a jar of coconut oil too, but I rarely used it over the summer because it was always melted.

  • Yep we don't wipe every change. I do make sure he's fully dry before putting the clean diaper on. So either a dry wipe or some air time.

If you want to use cream with every change coconut oil would be they way to go. I love EMAB cream but I find a little goes a long way and if you are using it every change you might end up with some that's hard to get out of the diapers. I'd save it for rashes.

  • We didn't wipe with just wet for our boy or girl, but do let them air dry for a second before covering back up. (That goes for cloth or disposable.) If you don't let them dry or don't change often enough they are more likely to get a diaper rash (not the only reason a rash can happen though). You shouldn't need a rash cream each time you change, only if they're bottom is starting to get a rash or looks a little irritated.
  • I don't wipe for a wet diaper. I can see why you would need to for some kids but it's never caused problems for us. I do give them a moment to air dry.

  • We don't wipe for pee. But we use disposable wipes (gasp!) and both girls have sensitive skin. So we just pat dry.
We don't use anything regularly. But my toddler is obsessed with her CJs stick, so she gets it most changes. And always after a poop bc she always looks a little red after a poop. I love CJ's. I put that shit on everything.
